I have drawn AZ tags several time, and my card hits never show up until 3-4 days after other people begain reporting hits.
I'll (try) to clam down and check Monday

I think you have answered your own question right here.
Just about anything that increases ballistics will also increase recoil.
If you are comfortable with the recoil of your 30-06, then use it.
You say it’s been used and abused over the years. I would take the “new gun”...
Be prepared to cover lots of ground.
With your boots. With your binoculars. With your truck.
Elk are big animals that live in big places.
If you’re not seeing elk, or fresh sign, move to a different area.
They say that 90% of the elk live in 10% of the area.
Find that 10% first, then hunt elk.
Spent a few days fishing Strawberry reservoir in Utah with my brother.
A 12 ft flat bottom on a lake 3 miles wide and 7 miles long, needless to say we spent a fair amount of time just motoring to where we wanted to fish
Two biggest were a 22” and a 24” Cuttroat. I caught the 22” on an Ultralight.
In the western states, hunting without binoculars is widely considered a fools errand.
Using your riflescope to “glass’ is universally considered a major breach of safety and ethics.
Don’t do it. For good reason, it really makes people angry.
I don’t hunt in eastern hardwood forests, but I can...
I do some trout trolling in mountain lakes
Two basic set ups are;
#1, An open face spinning rod, Ultra light up to Med, W/4 to 10 lb line, pulling a jointed Rapala, J-7 or J-9 in Trout colors or silver. Other popular options are small Castmasters or Panther Martins.
#2, A Med to Med/light...
Yes. Several large shiny blades, 18 to 26 inchs of leeder, and a spinner or hook/nightcrawler. Pulled slowly behind a boat at 1 to 2 MPH. Stirctly for trolling lakes.
Yes they are heavy and absorb some of the fight, but they work great for catching lots of trout.
Looks like a school of fish...
