There is a Roughtech Superlite out now. Looks like the Roughtech stock with a 20in for short action, fluted Superlite barrel. I want to see one before I pull the trigger on it. Those Superlite’s are my favorite Tikka. I always wanted a fluted barrel on a SS CTR as they are about a pound too...
I had a 6.5 CM in a Tikka CTR. Man that thing shot great. But interestingly enough, the felt recoil of that rifle weighing 9ish lbs was more of than that of my 6.5 lb Superlite in 308. Not sure why.
We have one. A CVA single shot. It’s plenty accurate, has mild recoil, and kills game soundly within 100yds. I haven’t seen it used on anything over that distance. My kids use it mostly. If I lived in a straight wall use state I wouldn’t hesitate to use it under 200yds.
Worked: a Tikka 308 Superlite,
my kids Stoeger 3020 20ga w/TSS #7’s-a true 60 yard turkey hammer, Accubonds and TSX’s-still, Schnee’s 10in pack boot, and the OnX hunt app navigating public land.
Didn’t Work: My Leupold VX5 3-15x44. Previously missing a season for a repair for not adjusting...
I have only one load. It’s the first one I tried and it shoots .75 groups at 100. 110gr BH209, 290 Barnes TMZ, Winchester 209 primer. I shoot 777 out of my hawkens and I have no doubt it would work as well. As far as break in I did nothing special. With the BH209 you can shoot longer without...
I understand your frustration. It’s not exactly what you understood to be buying. My experience with my Knight Mountaineer is that it’s a super reliable, well made piece of gear. It’s heavy and a pain to clean. But what I love about it is this, I don’t have to fool with it. I have never even...
I shoot 777 and #11’s in all my traditional guns (3). Cleanup is easy and ignition is not a problem. I wouldn’t hesitate to shoot a knight with that system.
The knight rifles HQ are local to me so I am kind of biased. I don’t have an ultra light but do have a mountaineer. Actually one of the first ones produced. It is a flat out nail driver. I can get a 3-4 inch 3 shot group at 200. That’s with 110gr BH209 and a Barnes 290 TMZ. They are well built...
I have shot lots of them out of both combat style and hunting guns. Mainly the Remington sluggers. Most accurate guns I ever saw were an 870 with a smooth bore barrel and scope on it and a 870 SBR with a 14in barrel surprisingly. The SBR shot with rifle style accuracy at 50 and 75 yards.
I have a 20” 7-08. No complaints there on performance. But with a suppressor I would probably go 18” or maybe even shorter. I would figure out what I wanted my overall length to be and just try to find a compromise between that and velocity.
Glad to hear it shoots. My Ridgeline 300wsm has a little bit of a stiff bolt but shoots fantastic. 150gr TSX handloads at 3175fps. It’s been bad medicine on all the whitetails I have pointed it at.
Minwax antique oil stain. I did a TC Renegade stock with it last year and it turned out great. I think I did 8 coats over the coarse of a week, letting it dry in between.
My 10 year old son is hunting with a Ruger American compact in 243. I converted it to the AICS mags just so I had one less type of mag around. It’s pretty accurate with factory and handloads, around 1MOA. He kills stuff with it and likes it. I have no experience with the savage. I would...
