*So I am a bit long winded this morning. If you want to skip the rambling and get strait to my thought on a new forum category, just skip the the last paragraph.*
Back in the springs, I was bear hunting with a new friends when I was invited to his elk camp this year. A backcountry hunt done...
I am in the process of building a new rifle and have a couple of questions. I just purchased a Weatherby Vangaurd in .300 WinMag. I have not bought a scope for it yet but I'm looking at the Diamondback Tactical. (I know most here love Leupold and they make great products, but I am going with...
Im in the process of applying for a job in the Libby MT area. I've checked FWP harvest reports, regulations, checked Montana cadastral (looking at how much public land there is) and now I am hoping for some boots on the ground input. I'm NOT looking for honey holes or anything like that. Im...

I will second the Vortex optics opinion. They make good glass and back up the products. Also, a used scope that's name brand, Leupold, Nikon etc is a good route also. I have the Vortex Diamondback 20-60x60 and absolutely love it. Just my opinion though.
My disclaimer: It's been a long time since I have hunted unit 27 so I may be completely off with my attempt to help. I would stay away from Hannagan Meadow area. It does hold a lot of elk, however it also will have a lot of hunters. Just south of Alpine is the Blue River Rd, FS 281 (i think)...
The Montana B tag draw results have posted to their website. I was able to pull a Wall Creek elk B tag and a 311 Mule Deer B tag this year.
Good luck to everyone who put it!
I was thinking the waistbelt wrap length was for how low you wanted the butt of your rifle to ride, but T Bone's logic makes a lot more sense than mine.
Thanks for your input, you saved me a lot of headaches.
Quick question for anyone who knows more than I do about the Kifaru Gun Bearers.........
I have a Slumberjack Bounty pack and plan on running the gun bearer on my left side. From the looks of it, the Kifaru gun bearer attaches to molle webbing, which my waistbelt has on the left side, so it at...
Quality is everything when it comes to optics. My "optics system" is pretty basic. I run 10x42 binos in a good harness with a 20-60x60 spotting scope on a good tripod. Rounding out the group is a semi cheap rangefinder, which I hope to upgrade this year or next. I use my binos to take a peek...
LOL, I think you will be okay and not crucified too badly. To answer your question, I don't have any experience with either pack but I do use the Bounty 4500 and have for two or three years now. The 4500 is the predecessor to the Bounty 2.0. After packing out a couple of elk and several deer...
You can expect a ton of hunters. It may just be me but it seems like every one and their brother tends to hunt 360/362. Like Tjd stated, watch out for bears. There are a lot of grizzlies in the area usually resulting in someone getting mauled every year or two. The resident elk population is...
I would suggest looking at the Slumberjack Bounty. The new model, the 2.0, is still a little pricey but the older version, the 4500, can be found for $179 or less. I've had the 4500 for a couple of years now and packed several elk and deer with it. You can run it as the full pack (frame...
