I agree, I also have Superday pack for several years now, absolutely bulletproof. Also take a look at AlpsZ. I have their Extreme-X Hybrid pack, 2700ci, and can haul meat. I personally have put 100lbs on that pack, my legs weren’t happy about it, but it was comfortable carrying.
I’m thinking the 9mm is a bit anemic, 10mm on the other hand, definitely doable with the right ammo. Personally would prefer to carry a 357, but to each their own.
Following…as such I know that the military version of the 308, the 7.62x51 was designed for 20” barrel. Also yes the 280AI & 7SAUM are ballistic twins.
I normally shoot Barnes TTSX and get anywhere from 5/8” to 3/4” groups at 100, and I’m using the same load at 3050fps, I can still go another 2 1/2 grains before max with the Barnes data, so I’m impressed that I’m getting 100+ fps more for same amount of powder.
So I recently bought a trial pack of 124gr Hammers to try in my 270. I don’t have enough powder for a ladder test, so I loaded up 5 rounds using Barnes load data for 129 LRX using Hunter powder. Using 57grs, I chrono’d a 5 shot average of 3180fps out of my Savage with a 22” barrel. At 100yds the...
For years I've carried either a Buck 110, and or the vanguard, in the last couple of years I've added the Havalon Piranta. Haven't had any issues. With either buck knife I can quarter 2-3 deer before having to touch the blade with a stone.
First one i bought back in '88 or '89, it disappeared a few years later, bought another one back in 2000, then 3 years ago , came across one with a drop point blade and oak handles, use both on countless animals.
I'm gonna have to agree with the others and say you did the right thing. Even though your daughter is very young, she learned a valuable lesson that day.
Camo clothing isn't a factor in hunting. Muted tones work just as well, tans, browns, greens, grey. As others have stated, not sky lining oneself, scent control, unnecessary movement, & playing the wind is much more important.
If the bino's are mostly used for PA hunting, the 8x's will be just fine, I have a Leupold set for over 10 years and no issues, can't remember the model but have been with me in quite a few states for hunting. The Leupold's were under $500.
Although I have never attempted to cross the Canadian border to hunt, a group of friends of mine did 3 years ago for a moose hunt. One of the individuals in the group had his firearm confiscated because he was convicted of a DUI 5 years prior to the trip, in his home state. And no, they don't...
I think the situation dictates what should be used. As many times as bear spray would be appropriate, is as many times a pistol would be. A rifle trumps all though. Last year, I was hunting in the Shoshone National Forest and ran in to a young male grizzly just 50' in front of me. We just kind...
270 & up is a good start. But as some have posted, many have been taken with a 243 with no issues. Blood tracking can be an issue in the fall especially, because a bear starts putting on a lot of fat for the winter, which, incidentally ends up plugging the hole that a hunter just put there, also...
