Very true, in hindsight I wouldn't have wanted to do this any other way. All in all we didn't have but about $3,500 invested in this trip including tags. That's not bad considering the tags made up about $1500 of it. We could have done it even cheaper had we camped. Had we attempted to use...
I never got any info on him good or bad. I did talk to him for an hour on the phone but didn't have a warm and fuzzy afterwards. Our group opted to do a DIY hunt and pulled it off successfully as you can see under some of my other posts. If you do decide to use him, please post a review as...
We hunted unit 3 to the west of there but drove along the boarder of 3 and 4 almost daily. We saw a lot of good bucks on the unit 4 side around Bakers Peak STL. As for the hunting pressure, I heard the same thing about unit 3 and the orange army but it ended up not being nearly as bad as I...
I'd say it depends on how much you would be disappointed if you don't fill all your tags. Personally I like to have the extra tags in my pocket in case the opportunity presents itself while I focus on my primary animal. On my recent CO trip, we were hunting primarily for deer but found Elk and...
My son is 6. Hes been going hunting with me for a few years now just tagging along and has practiced shooting his Rossi single shot 243 a lot this year so I let him sit in the drivers seat so to speak this season when he goes. The scope he has now is also a 3-9 but I typically just leave it...
Well I just picked up the VX2. Thanks everyone for the responses. I ended up getting it from Academy since they price match + take an additional 5% off. Ended up getting it for $190. I know this will be a major improvement over what my son is using now.
Unfortunately Leupold does not extend their discount to veterans, only active duty. I already checked. Still the discount at Bass pro is about 33% and I have some rewards.
What's everyones opinion of the Leupold VX2 3-9x40? Bass pro is selling them for $199 for Cyber Monday and I'm debating picking one up for my son's youth 243. I'm sure it's overkill for him but I want something that he can move up to better rifles as he gets older. He currently has a cheap...
I think it varies by state but for most states that's correct. If you complete an 80% lower, you are allowed to own the gun but you can never sell or transfer it. I'm not sure what happens if you die for instance or what the legality is of passing it on in that circumstance.
Does anyone have any experience with the pro model of the X-bolt. I'm considering getting one but at the price point it's hard not to consider paying a little more (relatively speaking) and going custom. Any experience or thoughts from the group? I'm looking at a 300 win mag so I can reach...
We had the same situation. Mom shot a 130" 3x4 in Colorado and decided to shoulder mount it because she wasn't sure if she'll ever be able to go on another Mule Deer hunt. In that case, its the biggest one (and only one) she has killed. I went out there with the plan that if I shot anything...
I just hunted the area north of that 3/301 during 2nd rifle and had an absolute blast. I looked up that unit on GoHunt for you but would recommend signing up as it has been very beneficial. According to GoHunt, the harvest success was 80% in 2015 and 76% in 2016 so with 43% public land so I...
I don't think most people will say Vortex is as good as Swarovski. They're not in the same league. Vortex are good for the price but as the saying goes you get what you pay for. I own Swarovski binos and rifle scopes as well as a Vortex spotting scope. I went lower in on the spotter because...
I just recently went through the same thing. I compared the old 85mm and the new 65mm and 85mm. Between the old 85 and new 85, I didn't see any noticeable difference in optical quality. The new one has some differences like the focal knobs but nothing that justified paying the extra price for...
I pretty much ate nothing but DQ for 4 months while stationed at Fort Knox in 2007. It used to be the only place to eat a hot meal near the training areas in Muldraugh KY and all the base dinning was too far to drive to.
I've not hunted Antelope before nor Wyoming but if they have anywhere near the number of Antelope I saw in Colorado last week you should be doing just fine. We probably saw over 2,000 up near the CO/WY boarder near Baggs, WY. It was insane to see that many wild animals but literally you...
I have the badlands 2200. Not sure what improvements they may or may not have made between your model and the one I picked up last year but I found that pack to be outstanding. I packed out two deer and an elk. Even had a front and rear quarter from the elk on it at one time and it held...
