    Layout boat shooters out there?

They are a great fit for marsh hunting because you can row them. A friend of mine uses his in S. Dakota, he sets up on the shore line with a light vegetation cover. He then uses the oars and rows out to pick up the ducks. As far as dogs go, I'm not sure. It would depend on the size of the dog...

    Layout boat shooters out there?

About 15 years ago I thought it would fun to do some layout boat waterfowl hunting. Being an engineer minded person I decided to build my own boat. Having built and designing sportsracing and formula cars since the early 80's working with fiberglass composites had become pretty easy. So here are...

    duck hunting

Your post was packed with great information and I agree with you on all except what is bolded above. That text I am uncertain about with my experience hunting waterfowl. I always did better at killing birds when they are shot coming in rather then going away. Your feather penetration theory...

I got this photo on Lake Superior today. I was trying to capture the first fall weather and got this too. No Gulls on the rock. I wonder why!

    Com'on man

I watched the debate every now and then just to see if they boys improved on behavior. This makes me think that maybe a lot of voters will watch the VP debate and determine there vote at that level. It's sad to say but technology of only having one microphone working for the person that is...

    The good old ammo days....

For some reason my memory of the Gold Federal box of shells seems like what I was shooting in approximately 1975 at ducks. Well before the steel shot law came into affect.

What kinda animal might this be ?

I'm with you on your guess. Every thing you point out is what I am seeing too. Beaver teeth seem to be wider than what is pictured. The gum line on the molar and height of the molar teeth above the jaw bone line make this animal look older because of tooth wear. The size of the jaw pictured...

Opossum do not have rodent type teeth. I think we can rule that one out.

Never Seen Damage Like This - Warning *Graphic*

I think you are spot on with the dead center bone hit. I made a mess like this with a 120 Grain Barnes TTSX out of a 7MM-08. It can happen with mono bullets too.

    Washing meat

The packaging materials I use are Saran Wrap and Freezer Paper. When I cut the meat (all bone has been removed) and package, I try to keep it simple. The Saran Wrap is the first layer and it seems to cling and hold position on the meat while wrapping that has not been rinsed better than if it...

    Washing meat

I pretty much do what you do with the crusty layer and a fillet knife. For the random hair or dirt that has stuck to the dry meat surface, there is a thin membrane that I start with a knife if needed, and peel the membrane off. The dirt and hair come off with it. No water use for me other than...

Camera action while being outdoors enjoying the fresh air and adventure. Feel free to add yours too.

About three mile downstream from the picture in post #220. This is the main steelhead river with very low water. Its much different in the spring! And a photo looking up the bank from the stream bed. It's kind of a unique looking sandstone rock formation.

    Sunday Pic of the Day

I caught this fern in the color change, prior to start curling up, and seasonal death. From my observation the color change to curling process takes about two days. It was kind of interesting to look at up close. A highly carcinogenic plant from what I have read and can make you sick from eating...
