Some fur that I sent out and got it tanned just for turning it into memory pieces.
Randy, I hope you are feeling better. The beaver has been on the wall a long time. It might even be the beaver that is on the VHS that was sent out from my old days. The one pictured, is the lightest colored I...
The very odd slow start to winter this week. Last year the lake was completely frozen over a month earlier.
There are some pictures and and questions that drove me to a position to take this photo. I just posted it in the Pictures/Camera action while being outdoors....thread if you want a...
With the waders on I went out and made the animal identification.
Now how did a doe end up dead and in the lake? I'm guessing that it broke through some early shoreline ice and drown. Then drifted into this stump area where animals either could get to them or not get to them. There were a lot...
I walked out to the edge of the lake at hunting camp. I could see 11 Bald Eagles around me. 10 were flying and 1 was sitting for me to get some photos of them. Some thing was going on because the most I have ever seen on this lake at one time is 3. Here are some of the flying eagles.
The eagle...
I'll back you up on your comment. I was the same way making sets to complicated. I figured out that using 110 conibears along a travel trail was very easy to catch mink. No bait used at all. Just put the trap right on the pinch point part of the trail and add a small branch to close down the...
I'll back your statement up a 100 percent. I went out in the early 90's helping the MDNR find a moose collar mortality signal in an area that I knew very well for navigation. Seeing the ribs cut that fast and clean for internal organ investigation impressed me. Those brush cutters worked awesome...
Usually there is so much snow on the banks of this river in the second week of December that it is very difficult walking with out snowshoes. Not this year. Thin patches of snow is it. I even messed around with the shutter speed on the camera for some fun.
I took this photo today a long the shore of Lake Superior. I'm pretty sure I know what waterfowl species it is (Anas acuta) but I have never seen it this late in the fall here before. If you are good at waterfowl identification please pick the species that you think it is.
The weather has moderated and there is very little ice that exists currently. The ducks are holding steady in the area and is kind of atypical for this to be ice free this late in November.
Some hardwood tree bark comparison growing at a close distance. In order from left to right. Yellow Birch, American Beech, White Birch, followed by more American Beech. I don't think I have ever seen three species growing within 4 feet of ground space.
Today I decided to go back for a walk to the area that I last hunted 37 years ago and killed a buck. I haven't been there since. This location is the solid western edge of the American Beech Tree in the UP. I heard recently that a disease has pretty much ruined the Beech Trees in this area. I...
Multiple mink had very recently moved through this area. A few Bottom Edge type sets with 110 conibears would have made today a great trap check. This area has produced a couple of Fur Harvester's Top Lot Mink Awards in past years.
