He said he was using a Hornady 30-06 hornady 165gr SST. Figuring it’s a factory load it’s MV is 2960. Only 70fps different than what I’m using. Bergers are probably faster. But he’s not using Bergers.
He’s got a BC of .447 and mine is .416, also not much difference.
His data and mine jive. Not...
Ok use a different word than easy. But you have a known insured of a maybe. You can at least see what it will take to draw a tag.
Not drawing a tag with with 3 fewer points than someone else.
Is it a whitetail tag or Any Deer? That’s quick if it’s Any Deer, and longer than I’d hope for WT.
Could you bring your wife with you? Plenty to do besides hunt while there.
If you just want to shoot a buck it wouldn’t take long. But that’s not much of a hunt to just run out and pop one.
I would do a few things….why wait until morning with warm temps?
Can you ask permission to look? If they say no, can you access it from the public land?
I think in WI they don’t have to let you but they can’t have the deer either. You could call the CO and see. I’d have to reread the regs on...
It’s a factory Federal 150gr Power Shok with an advertised MV of 2890fps.
I haven’t measured my scope height.
Shooting it out of a Winchester M70 fwt with a 22” barrel.
Looking on the box, sighted in at 100 yds it would be 13” low at 300.
I typically so go t in my rifles at 200. This was...
If you sight in a 30-06/165's in at 100 yds, it's 18 clicks to 300. My .280 Rem with 150's is 17 clicks to 300 with the standard CDS system (not actual custom) and a 100 yd zero.
With a 200 yd zero, you'd only be 6-7" low at 300 with a 30-0/165's
I have probably 10 VX3 HD CDS scopes. Most are 2.5-8 but a few are 3.5-10. Not one has a problem. All are on hunting rifles. I have one that is pre-CDS and I'd rather have just a turret cap instead of that.
Also have 2 VX freedom 3-9's that are great for the money.
We have shot a fair amount of deer now with the 55gr barnes ttsx out of .223 Rems. They're flat lights out killers. I can't tell you what they weigh because they're buried in the dirt behind the deer we've shot. Not one has been recovered.
For that sort of injury the only two I'd even consider would be the .223 Rem or the .22-250 Rem.
But truthfully, I'd worry more about getting healed up for future hunts than I would about hunting this season. Good luck to you.
