What are you (or anyone) hoping to achieve by using the paraloid? Stop the skull from drying out over time? Stop it from falling apart? Keep it white over time?
Congrats. You know the only thing different about a big bull is what is on his head. The entirety of the rest of the experience is exactly the same. Way to go!
I should have clarified, the gentleman I talked to was in his 70s, son was in his 40s, and grandson was in his 20s. Plenty of OTC opportunities to justify a family camping trip without burning an opportunity from someone else to harvest a bull.
Talked to an older guy at the trailhead on my elk hunt this year. He states he had drawn an elk tag for the same area but no desire to shoot an elk. I asked him why he put in for the hunt and he said so he could ride horses with his son.
I guess he didn’t realize that he could have ridden his...
I clean my guns down to bare metal every year. Over time if copper is left in the barrel, galvanic corrosion will cause pitting.
I still don’t understand why solvent is bad on an action?
2023 elk. Had a very high bar set as 2 freezers are still full of bison. Passed on a 7 pt day 1. May have felt bad about that as we could have hunted wolves over the carcass.
Saw some cows 2 days later, gave a toot on the hoochie mama, he bugled and came out of the timber. I put one into his...
I have been worried about that too but am trying a small back pack cover to go over my piece while hiking. Hopefully not too cumbersome to remove as I am not willing to step away from a revolver personally.
I have uninsulated beartooth I use for above freezing temps/early season. They are fine but I have never wished my feet were cooler. I always bias towards more insulation as hot feet never bother me but cold feet can affect the hunt.
No kidding. Just spent a week helping during late buck in Washington and never saw a buck and hardly any deer even driving around during peak rut. Multiple reasons for that but that is probably the first time ever in 30 years that it’s happened.
And seeing all the good bucks taken in Montana...
All of my gear worked great as it is all pretty well dialed in at this point so won’t list it.
However what didn’t work was rifle hunting during rutting elk. Yes I got a bull, but I had a very high bar set. I found it is much more difficult to tag a big bull with rut activity going on. Too many...
The only thing worse than not drawing a tag is drawing it and not being able to do it the justice that you want. That is much harder to swallow than never drawing IMO.
FWIW the late great Jim Posewitz did the same thing with the last goat tag he drew. Never even hunted it as he had already killed one. Should have let someone else have the tag.
However, rumor has it Jim shanked his tent at his house and sold it as memorabilia to fund conservation so there is that.
Carmor Plains/Matt Kelman. I took a croc, pig, and water Buffalo in 2011 with them. Not sure if they are still operating as they may have sold but highly recommend.
