Well I'm here now I ended up deciding to check out some areas south of grand junction instead made me realize I need to be a little better at e scouting terrain lol
Thank you for the advice everyone this will be my first elk hunt in the mountains I got 1 in Nebraska last year but the mountains are a whole new thing for me as far as hunting. I will let you know how I did after the season.
Well I'm going on a scouting trip this weekend and see what I think of the unit it will be my first time hunting colorado so I might end up back to the drawing board but I have a few other units in mind if it doesn't pan out.
I was wondering if anyone could give me some tips or tricks for predicting hunt pressure in otc units in Colorado and any tips to use it in your advantage. I'll be hunting in unit 74 in Colorado 2nd rifle season.
Well use it in stuff like spaghetti stir fry, chili, and other heavily seasoned recipes. You can also add fat to ground meat beef or pork, I've also heard of people grinding in bacon as well. With my sister all we had to do is tell her it was beef and she liked it it was all in her head.
Do you happen to know if perins peak swa gets hammered by people in 2nd rifle season? I've been doing some e scouting and it looks good but it's pretty close to durango so I didn't know if it would be a zoo around there or not.
What did you think of the unit from my research it looks like it might be a hard.unit to find elk I was looking into putting it down as a third choice in my application this year.
Heart, tongue and shanks seem to get thrown out way to often and they are some of my favorites to make meals from. I made elk tongue tacos the other night they were delicious I used hank Shaws recipe.
Burger onions garlic and a can of baked beans. Brown the burger with the onions and garlic then throw in the beans and simmer for a few minutes and eat up quick and easy.
I'm applying thos year! Don't worry I'm not applying for any of the glory tags just putting in for some of the higher draw odd units. Going on my first out west elk hunt this year if I don't draw NM I'm going over the counter in CO with the orange army lol.
Neck roasts and shanks are excellent when used with slow cooked recipes. I like to make a big batch of taco meat from shanks and use the leftovers for enchiladas.
