    I say go do it. My first solo bull elk success was up in that country on a first season rifle hunt. Only 2 miles in the way the crow flies, but over 4 hiking, lots of down trees.     I've always used tactical red dots and swear by them. When I use scopes without illumination I just feel unnatural like something is missing. I find the red dot on rifle scopes helps me with faster target acquisition and tracking. But in hunting shouldn't really be worried about target tracking

    Tripod recommendations

    I run a Sirui st124 tripod with a va5 head for everything. I'm guessing alot of people here do similar. Runs around $275 I take that into backcountry and from the road and never regret it.

    That makes all rifle seasons earlier and no Thanksgiving hunts. Moves hunts further earlier than deer rut and earlier than most elk migrations if I'm doing my math right. Interesting choices, I'll be changing my plans next year. Good for deer herd, but that 4th rifle cow elk hunt I usually do...
