    Importing a skull

No need to spend $1000 to bring animals home, whenever we go anywhere and need to bring larger trophies home we cut an antler or horn off to fit into a large bag and always try to get them home. Either we use the loophole of sporting goods allowance which our hunting gear falls under or we pay...

    Africa PH sounds the alarm

Hunting in Africa has extreme variance, but i do agree with some of his comments. Good read to get guys thinking about the future and it doesn't just concern Africa really.

    Importing a skull

Did you read my post on the other thread you made? It is very straight forward. Make sure it is clean and free of meat, blood and hide. Very easy to do. Get a letter of origin stating the species of deer and that it was taken legally. Keep a copy of your hunting licence and if need be have...

    WWII Roe deer???

Nice piece of history, glad you guys have kept it in the family. They are roe deer that he harvested. Very easy to get antlers back from overseas countries provided the skulls or skull plate are boiled well and no meat attached. Capes and hides are different, thats when customs like to...

    My Redneck European Adventure

Good luck on the adventures. I never mount anything from overseas and get it shipped back. If you happen to shoot a nice animal with Richard you can always get the full skull treated and boiled, some documentation on your licence and animal species, salt the cape a couple of times and bring it...

    Idaho Bear Question

Always worth a try, what have the local biologists said about terrain, habitat and food sources of the bears at that time of the year in there?

    help - poor grouping???

Sometimes it can take 20-40 rounds through a tube with a proper cleaning process before things start settling down with the groups. Also with the bergers, we normally start of with seating them to maximum mag length, meaning you seat the bullet out as far as you can but still allowing cycling...

    help - poor grouping???

Where are the bullets sitting in regards to the lands? Sometimes its good to shoot a ladder group with .5gr increases in powder and see where it tightens up keeping an eye on pressure signs. If its shooting a couple bullets close together and then a flyer or two, then something isn't holding...

    Lets talk 300WSM bullets

Used to run Barnes TTSX 180gr for everything from rabbits to buffalo. Now i just use Berger 190gr VLD Hunting bullets out of my .300wsm, seated to mag length and i see no reason to change. Have used them for a lot of large framed deer at varying ranges and have full confidence in them.

    Cape Buffalo ethics

Buffalo and bovines aren't hard to kill, the issue is guys using rifles and calibres they have very limited experience with and very little knowledge of shot placement and animal anatomy. I've seen dozens get shot and they die just as quick as everything else when hit properly with a bullet...

    New lion population found

Thanks, was an interesting read. The link on the West African lions was also good. But most of these groups associated with press releases concerning the discoveries of the lions are all seeking funding and financial support to manage and conserve the animals. If there is 100-200 in the...

Are there any economical drop camps

Just go self guided and fly camp, accumulate quality gear secondhand if you have to, split it between the four of you, (like two tents), research areas and get into it. There is no guarantee that an outfitter will drop you in a good area anyways, it is wise if he does, but if he has guided...

    New lion population found

Interesting to hear about the lions, i will do some searching to have a read. A lot of these newly discovered populations are well known by locals or native hunters, just the international community might not have knowledge of them until some biologist or field worker stumbles across them and...

AZ Elk and Pronghorn Online Draw Open

Just a reminder that finally the online draw is open for these two species. I emailed the department asking why there was a hold up and they said they were testing out some new computer software etc. Anyways, the window is short with a 9th of Feb deadline, hate to see any keen hunt talk guys...

    Blaser Rifles

Have used a few, and i REALLY like the K95's, just a very functional single shot. Could have brought a very nice R8 with a Swaro very affordably recently, but as all my bolt guns are sako's i didn't want to upset the herd. Will look at find an affordable secondhand K95 at some stage, luxus or...
