    Need a lighter rifle

Shedhorn Sports in Ennis, MT shows a Kimber MT in .300WSM on their website for a bit under $1200. Not sure how close they are to you.

    Winchester M70 300 WSM

2 quick questions. Do you know the rough weight on this one? If memory serves, they are roughly 8lbs, does that sound about right? Also, do you know weather or not this is an FN produced Winchester, or if it's a late new haven gun?

    Need advice on accuracy

Flinching definately does not promote good shooting, or form. But, for me being able to get comfortable behind the rifle and be be able to repeat that position is also important. I shot off a stoney point "bench rest" Lead sled knock off for several years, and it was seriously difficult to...

    Need a lighter rifle

As others have said, I'd figure out how much rifle you really want to carry in the field. Most sporter weight rifles should be about 7lbs naked, in a synthetic stock. That will translate to about 9.5-10lbs with a scope, mounts, sling, bipod and ammo, or 8.5-9lbs w/o the bipod. This will be a...

    Need advice on accuracy

FWIW, with my .325WSM's that I've loaded accubonds for, the sweet spot was approx .010-.015" off the lands. This may or may not be possible with all rifles and all magazine lengths.

    Need advice on accuracy

I wouldn't advise strapping the barrel down to the rest. Any un-natural pressures on the barrel can dramatically effect barrel whip and barrel dynamics. If nothing else, pressure on the barrel will effect point of impact. The best group I've ever shot were off something like a lead sled, but...

Heck of a long range scope review

Definitely a cool topic. I do like how 3 Nightforce optics ended up in the top 6 for optical clarity. I'm not sure how I feel about 6% of the total score being based on available... Especially when 6% separates 1st place from 6th place. Other than that, it looks like a well done and...

House kills bill limiting game warden powers

I remember an old story my dad told about a hunter down the Gallatin Canyon years back who shot a Chocolate colored Mule mistaking it for a Cow Moose... I've also watched Cormorants get shot as Geese. I would have hated to be that duck dog... I bet those cormorants smelled about as pretty as...

    Montana HD 570

I have hunted Antelope for 10 years or so west of Harlowtown. As well as Deer and Elk. This past year, Antelope numbers had been so low, that I decdied to not even apply for the area. Numbers have been low enough that I actually feel bad about shooting the antelope that are there. In 3 days...

Litz does still list a .324 G7 BC in both sources, and based on the BC correlations, I would think that would still generate a better drop table than either G1 BC... G1 Correlation is listed in the book as .496 G1 and .966 G7. Correlation of 1.000 would mean that the bullet is a perfect match...

Greenhorn, I got those numbers directly out of Brian Litz's book "Applied Ballistics for Long-Range Shooting" 2nd edition page 514 for the 208A-max and page 483 for the 210VLD. The book was published in 2011, so I'm not sure if he has re-tested them since then... According to his book the...

Rosco Here's the initial results from the Litz testing. Not sure where you got your numbers from, but here's what Litz tested them at. I will keep looking to see if I can find any more about what some of the newer LRAB's test out at. Looks like most, with proper twists were within about...

Tell me if you are getting bored with reports from blighty!

I have not doubts that I can hit the weight goal with an 85 finlight in .308, and there is certainly something to be said for having them on the same action. It's definitely on my radar. I'm also looking at putting something together in a reasonable caliber on a custom action and have a really...

Tell me if you are getting bored with reports from blighty!

Definitely not... It's the rifle I have the most confidence in, but that doesn't mean for a second that I enjoy hauling 12lbs of firestick up the hills in MT... The other rifle I hunt with is about 3lbs lighter, but I just don't shoot it very well anymore. It's a .325WSM and I've devloped a...
