On the South Fork of the Flathead in MT there's a limited harvest deal for Bull trout, I don't know all the details... Where I caught this guy, It's Catch and Release only. That bull is back in the water for some other luck angler.
Managed to get out Yesterday for a couple hours after work, and managed to find a few. Deep swing with a big streamer, stripping the fly back toward me, watch the fish miss the fly the first time; See a second flash in the water, feel weight... Definately didn't expect a 25"Bull!! Turbulent...
My every day use "utility" knife is a benchmade with S30V Steel. The edge tunes up nicely and holds as well as I'd ask a knife that cuts primarily cardboard and tape... At that sort of price, I'd take a look at Skyblade knives. My hunting knife is a Skyblade Bison 4. They are made in...
There are a ton of options out there for ballistic calculators. G7's is ok, JBM is a good system, Applied Ballistics is what I use, "Shooter" smart phone App uses the same ballistic algorithms as Applied Ballistics. Both are good. If you can, use trued BC data. Bryan Litz has done extensive...
I Carried a shooting mat on one of my precision rifle courses. I don't typically carry one while hunting. For me, the shooting mat I have is far too bulky to carry in the field.
One thing I do carry in the field, is a rear shooting bag filled with lightweight plastic beads. That has been...
The craziest for me was laying staring at a 6"x12" plate at 642yds with my .308 with about a 15mph wind screaming right in my right ear and having the spotter tell me, OK, hold 1 MOA high, no wind.... 642yds, 15mph crosswind... and the spotter says "Hold 0 wind" Band, Ding; Bang, Ding. Get...
FWIW, Here's my understanding of the pro's and cons's of Carbon wrapped barrels...
Pro's: Lighter than full steel construction, Stiffer than full steel construction, larger diameter faster cooling
Con's: Carbon wrap is more brittle than steel, the barrel is far easier to damage or chip than a...
This could not be more true. Learning to judge wind can make the difference between making you look like an expert and making you look like a complete fool.....
Wind at the barrel is important, wind at the target is important, wind everywhere in between is important.
It's also important to...
Jamen,
This coming from someone with a fair amount of experience shooting targets at longer ranges (out to 1200yds). A few things I can add to the conversation. $200 is Seriously not worth it for custom turrets.
If you can get out in the badlands this summer. Shoot in the area you think you...
I'm a pretty avid AR shooter, and while I'm no expert, I have a Noveske Ares II with an Aimpoint M4 on it. I love my aimpoint for work out to about 100-150 yds. Mine has a 2moa dot in it, and while I know the rifle is capable of accuracy beyond the groups I get. I tyipcally shoot groups about...
I've been thinking a trip with these guys might be in order at some point..............

I'm fairly certain, though not 100%, that this is who they were fishing with in that youtube video...
A little inspiration for those looking to find some Pike... It's a long video, but definitely worth the watch. BTW... This guy does take at least 1 50+" fish...

One other thing you can try. Instead of just a strip retrieve, you can use the rod to twitch the fly and strip in the slack. IME this tends to impart a bit more action to the fly than just stripping the fly.
I can't provide too much info. I've take exactly 1 pike on a fly... it was about a 23-24" northern out of the Bitterroot river in MT last October. I don't see anything wrong with an 8wt for pike. I took mine on a 6wt...
The suggestion's I'd have, use Big, Flashy flies.
I caught mine on a...
2 Quick questions,
Who made the rail for the bi-pod mount? That's a pretty nice looking little rail?
Also, How do you like that Bartlein tube? I'm debating calibers and such for a custom build and failry certain that it will use a Bartlein barrel in a #3. How's it treated you so far?
Thanks!!
I didn't see many fish on reds, but the bows that I caught were all stacked up in at least 3.5' of water, and where they were, they were thick... I would imagine that more were on the reds than I could see, but it looks like things are in process for the rainbows. I didn't catch a single brown...
