I've not yet been in a situation where it wasn't a case of hosting someone or someone doing the most work on the trip where the question of who shoots first has really come up. I think you can reason the situation out without even talking it through based on social norms.
If you are a bunch...
I have the Kuiu Yukon rain jacket and it doesn't breathe nearly as well as my softshell or even a DWR hardshell and its middle of the road quiet. Its quieter than the lightweight rain gear, but not as quiet as the more brushed surface rain gear.
I run the Kuiu Superdown jacket and its one of...
Going from $400 to $600 opens up a lot of options for hunting specific backpacks. Really anything that fits well from Mystery Ranch, Kuiu, Exo, Kifaru or Stone glacier is a good option. They each have little differences and design philosophies, but all are offering frame systems with load...
Hornady ELD-X in the precision hunter ammo. Ballistic coefficient is critical to longer shots and minimizing wind drift and it has a bullet that opens up pretty well.
A boot brand that doesn't get a lot of attention in the US from hunters is Salewa. I've been using them for a season now and they are about as good of a lightweight to stable boot platform as exists. This set I'm using is about 1.3 lbs and goretex that so far has been quite good...
Its because Wyoming doesn't require private land to be posted along with the combination of fence lines not on true boundaries and often featureless areas meant for years you couldn't figure out a lot of public land before GPS chips. Guys got away with it for a long time and I'm sure law...
Its worth noting I saw only 1 other group of hunters that wasn't right at the trailhead or road in 5 days in Colorado which was good, but in doing so I was intentionally in some really rough country. Most of my hunting was 4-7 miles of hiking from any roads or trailheads and there was...
I have used and owned some of the smaller Sitka packs in the Flash 20 and Whitetail bucket and the Sitka packs lack a load shelf feature and the customization of waist and torso sizing to get a custom fit compared to Mystery Ranch, Exo Mountain Gear, Kuiu, Kifaru and Stone Glacier. The sitka...
I did CO muzzleloader elk on a leftover tag this year as my first ever elk hunt and would not recommend Colorado in general unless a unit takes a few points to draw. Elk were clearly pressured by September 12th just by the archery hunters. I worked really hard hunting off my back up 3 different...
9-13" would be the hunting prone model, the issue being if you are in sage brush country or similar 13" is not enough in some cases to shoot over vegetation. 6-9" are the bench and tactical models so ignore those. The 20"+ ones are for shooting from a sitting position.
For antelope hunting you just need some degree of 4x4 capability to get to a point where you can walk without being swarmed by trucks or ATV's. You have to listen to the weather forecast and get back to better roads if its gonna thunderstorm all night or accept that you may have to wait a day...
I think you have to look it at the prospective of opportunity to cost, both now and later rather than just what it cost to apply or is refunded on a tag. Most of the states have a give and take of now and or later with regard to costs kept or retained. They all have something better or worse...
There are actually a few tags for NR:
There is a NR resident statewide whitetail that lets you hunt anywhere during any season OTC- $537
There is a 9 day firearm restricted statewide buck tag that is good for a whitetail anywhere or a mule deer buck outside the mule deer conservation zone...
The region ones are preferable in most ways if you know where you are hunting and the region isn't sold out. All it does is limit the number of hunters in a unit by taking a fairly cheap NR tag at the regional level and doubling to one of the most expensive ones out there as means of limiting...
I get 48 hours at a minimum on my 600 with 2 Lithium AA's without turning it off or being stingy about power consumption. One AA a day seems to work for me.
