I love my timberlines, but have always struggled to find the perfect pant for warmer temps (60+ day time high). This September I ran the ascent pants during CO Muzzleloader season and felt they were a pretty good option. I still miss having the knee pads, but those are also exclusive of having...
This 100%.
People have priorities regardless of what they want to pursue. I know plenty of people who at least for a couple of years have been ____(insert any recreational activity) bums almost full time by living a very minimal lifestyle. I know people who managed to take leaves of absences...
I don't think there is a notable difference between 6.5 CM and 7mm-08 as they both have similar case capacity, powder type and bullet weight (120-140 gr). 7mm-08 has the advantages of more rifles in that caliber, more commercial ammo and more common reloading components.
Going from chuck hawks recoil table
6.5's (260, 6.5 CM, 6.5x55) are going to have 10-13 ft-lbs of recoil
7mm-08 is 12.5-13 ft-lbs recoil
308 165 grain is 18.1 ft lbs-recoil
The issue with SST's is that they don't hold together well, so why would you be fine at higher velocities? Its more you should be fine at lower velocities. Modern hunting bullets almost all open up reliably above 1800 fps at impact.
The load them fast argument makes a lot of sense with...
I used SST's out of my .243 for a whitetail about 5 years ago. The shot was at 75 yards with an impact velocity around 3000 fps with a good broadside heart shot. The bullet entered, broke apart but didn't exit the other side. That whitetail when way to far (200 yards) considering the shot...
Plenty of states publish stats on the percent of hunters that actually hunted on a tag when a limited quantity is given out. I've never seen the percentage below 90% or so. Until someone shows me compelling numbers I don't believe its an issue having much effect.
Lots of hunters blame their...
Its really not about how much pork, but how much pork fat % by weight. You really need to have at least 20% fat to get good sausage effects. I like to trim all of the fat off of the pork so I can actually weigh it rather than guessing on ratios. whether on not I use the lean pork in sausage...
This is 100% true. I currently live in Illinois and have transitioned to hunting out of state almost 100%. In 2016 I hunted 1 day in Illinois and 20 out of state (MO, SD, NE, CO) because those states offered ample opportunity for me to be successful DIY on public land and the tag cost was a...
So what do good optics, boots and backpacks cost? Money invested in good quality clothing is more than worth it for guys who don't go back to a heated lodge at the end of the day.
All of the technical hunting gear is great compared to the half cotton garbage Mossy Oak and Realtree pushed for...
I have a bunch of both companies gear and Kuiu is definitely a little cheaper than Sitka for the similar product, the difference is Sitka tends to have more design features where as Kuiu props themselves up on materials rather than design. The more I use Sitka pieces the more clever things I...
Last year I did 3 trips out west 2 of which were solo whose respective drive time each way were 20 hours (solo), 13 hours (shared) and 12 hours (solo). The biggest issue is solo with the long drives is that if you don't break the drive up, you pay for it pretty badly with a day of lost hunting...
I think the fact that semiauto rifles aren't the best tool for the job is as much argument for them being legal given how common they are and potentially open the sport to new hunters who already have them.
I would start by making a list of reps who are either bucking the trend of their party or really any elected Democrats from Western states because I feel that these represent strong voices. Unfortunately there isn't any value in asking a Democrat from Chicago or a Republican from Indiana about...
I'm very much of this school of thought. Big blocks especially with roads are obvious and see lots of pressure. Ideally I want something that necks down really tight and then opens up again. Also the edges of private land produce a lot of game because of the sanctuary effect.
I guess they don't realize you end up dropping what more than the cost of a tag on gear and travel for these hunts, I usually figure the tag costs about 1/3rd that of the total hunt. There will always be a ton of guys complaining about tag costs or the something who don't really have the drive...
I think its pretty hard to ignore the historic and demographic reasons why Utah is such a hot bed of public land transfer. The population republican/democratic split is 59%/26% which is one of the most significant in the country and at the state rep level its 4 republicans for every democrat...
Don't even take these, its wasted weight and space.
Take 2 pairs of socks and underwear not 3.
Swap the 90% jacket for a down jacket.
Bring a rain gear top which also becomes a hardshell (sitka, kuiu, first lite)
Forget the jetstream vest, I have one and its pretty useless.
Bring the...
