As a NR hunter, I agree with the residents; "If you want to reduce the herd size on your ranch, allow hunters to hunt them until they leave."
I also see the Landowner idea and potential approach, Bob the neighboring rancher gets $10-15k per bull hunt. But the elk have to be there to hunt. So...
I would recommend sending the original person who wrote this post a PM. This thread is over a decade old and the data while useful, may not be relevant anymore.
my wife and I got very lucky this year. Drew both General Type 1 bull and AND a unit cow tag. We were not guaranteed on either (with less than 30% chance) and we drew all of them. My trick is to always make my wife the party leader and me as the second person. For some reason she is very lucky...
Those aren't Tennesseans, those are all the transplants we have acquired in the past three years since COVID started. Real Tennesseans will move over and nod or give you a pleasant wave as you go by on the Interstate.
Those are the entitled folks who moved in because TN is "cheaper living" and...
I have hunted this general area for many, many years. 90% of the pronghorn will be on private in this area. They have better feed, water, and protection staying on private land in the areas around Craig.
You will see a very large herd just west of town walking around the "hotel district" all...
RUMOR is this year only 7000 more people applied for the "elk special" draw from last year. I guess everyone is burning points in WY this year. Personally, I hope they are all 1, 2, and 3 point holders. Get it while the getting is good, as they say. If you put in as a NR for a LE Draw, you may...
My wife and I were TWO of the Elk Combo NR license. No elk were harmed during the hunt. We ate Tag Soup and enjoyed every spoonful for the opportunity to camp in MT and go on long hikes with our bows.
We also spent plenty of money in a small town not normally known for hunting. The locals were...
Tennessee Whiskey and Shine are my drinks of choice. I have seen a lot of people go prompt stupid from not understanding moderation and fun. Most of them end up in a ditch or rolling down a steep mountain side. You can warn people all you want, they're gonna do what they want.
PS. Drunk ladies...
Thank you sir @BuzzH for potentially saving some lives in the field over nothing more than a misunderstanding and "hot heads".
I could completely see where an upset landowner comes out with a shotgun and points it at some hunters who think they are in the right crossing public land. Only bad...
