Ugh, poets.
I’ve tried to get through this article, but I just can’t stop rolling my eyes. The spirituality woo-woo-ness of it all is too much for me to stomach.
I have a Rossi trifecta (20ga/22lr/243win), and it’s possibly the most fun rifle I own. For years my wife would only shoot our 10/22, but now she’d rather shoot this little break action. I don’t know why, but loading up this little guy one at a time is just heckin’ fun.
I’m glad to see conversation, because I often get the impression that folks around here must all be professional hunters/guides with how often/long they are hunting, and the money they spend to do so.
For myself, I’m still kind of figuring it out. I just picked up hunting 3 years ago, and my...
I’m in the permanent DST camp. Sunrise at 9am is fine by me. I’d rather go to work in the dark than have it be dark when works over.
Plus, it means I wouldn’t need to get up “early” at all to hunt the sunrise. That alone is benefit enough.
🤯 that’s wild. When I lived in AK I was always told that if SAR had to come get you, you had to pay the bill, which would be beyond $100k, so you were better off just dying.
Idk about that, but there ought to be some financial disincentive to keep people from venturing beyond their abilities...
So what’s activating one of these run a person, in USD, after it’s all said and done? I assume the person who made the call foots the bill for the SAR, no?
There’s also the Girdwood Forest Fair during that time. If you’re driving to Seward from Anchorage, and need a pit stop, this is a fun event in a quaint little ski town.

While you’re in Anchorage, stop in for some pizza and beer at Moose’s Tooth, and get the Diablo sauce if you like spicy food! Better yet, if you have the time, is to go to Bear’s Tooth Theaterpub. Same people, same pizza, but you’re eating & drinking while watching a discounted movie. Great way...
I do this all the time! Give’m a few days and they’re ready to eat. Not very hot, though it imparts a nice jalapeño flavor on to the eggs.
I’ve done it with pepperoncini brine, too.
This is the kind of thing I wish was more common. I don’t want a season long lease, just somewhere to hunt for a few days. I think anything south of a grand is more than fair for 3 nights.
All I’ll throw in here is not to write off the military as an option for young people. It’s not just HS diploma vs College degree vs Trade School. One can spend a few years figuring out life before choosing which route to go, or make a career out of it.
I’m garbage at school. Always have been...
What’s that ol’ saying, “your health will fade before your wealth”?
While having money is nice, and financial stability is imperative (to me at least), I’d still rather spend my money while I’m able to enjoy what it buys me, rather than amass it.
If I did a quick T account for my assets vs...
