Dude those are awesome! Great story. Which unit are you hunting in? If you need a meat hauler let me know. I’d be happy to help out and connect with other dudes in Oregon.
Yea i was suprised at the picture quality and I don't have it turned up to the higher HD options. I had several elk and a bunch of yotes cruise by it and none were spooked by the light so the IR seems to be doing the trick.
Got the idea to look at other forums from this. I've been a member of ifish.net for a long time but rarely post there (not really a fisherman much).
Anyway... TONS of posts for Oregon folks on their hunting forums.
I'm getting lots of intel for my deer unit that supposedly sucks but lots of...
I ended up getting two of these to get me started and see how they work. I set them up for video + 3 stills as others suggested and took a climbing stick with me so I could mount them up high. I put a stick behind the top so that they would angle out a bit and surprise-surprise, got lots of...
My first trail cam pics of my entire life. I put just one cam up about a week ago to see what I could learn about which animals are where, and also about how best to mount cams. Things I learned:
- Elk are (generally speaking) at high elevations. Deer might be lower in the valleys
- Predation...
Poster of #49 has already moved on apparently. #50 is still active, mostly engaging with non-hunting related content. Very suspicious.
The forum software apparently adds rel="nofollow" on post links so they're not getting any search engine love at least.
Very interesting. On one hand I believe we should honor treaties, this one included, and the fact that it was ignored is no reason to continue to ignore it. I too prefer either a textualist or originalist approach to the constitution. On the other hand I can't help but feel that continuing the...
Absolutely true. I always pack for emergencies even though ultralight. SOL bivy has been used on more than one occasion when weather turns sour. Ability to make fire is also critical.
I'm a ham, have been for a while. If you were looking for something for person-to-person chat I'd be more likely to suggest you pick up some FRS/GMRS radios and start with those. For actual ham bands, everyone using the radios would need a license. For FRS you don't, for GMRS you can use a...
... in Washington. Most other states have also confirmed right to conceal carry when licensed and wearing a mask as directed under COVID-19 mandates. The exceptions (shocker) are California and Illinois where wearing a mask and concealed carrying is specifically outlawed.
I'm new to hunting but started out solo backcountry after years of backpacking alone anyway.
My advice, go ultralight as much as you can. Get your pack weight down as far as you can and it will make the distance you can cover and the meat you can haul out alone that much greater. My total pack...
