Last September I could hardly find a place to park there. Also, I would treat the trails like interstates, some are open to motorbikes. Cool looking country though.

Terrible hunting in that area. You will have to drive a long ways to find any elk. Sparky's or papa-t's have great food. Word is a brewery is about to open too.

On the Subject of Land Exchanges

Or... 3. Convince the BLM to pioneer a two-track road around the property? I've already offered my services for free. The road could always be improved in the future, but in the meantime, why not drive around it so Wilkes can't hold the BLM hostage for the access.

Rabble, Rabble, Rabble! Haha, I love the people that get interviewed, but he is right, there are no elk left at all in the southern Gallatin! The wolves are surviving by eating hikers, bikers and hunters! I am joining that guy and going to New Mexico!

Thanks for the help. I ran the numbers on several districts using the method you described and came up with similar (but not equal) results as the method I used. Probably dumb luck. Your example clearly shows how my method didn't work.

It's kind of funny I spend the time to calculate the odds out in various districts when what I find out has absolutely nothing to do with my decision on where to apply.

Thanks. Much simpler way of explaining it. Thanks. But, if there are 20 people with 10 points and 500 people with 2 points isn't that going to change the probability that I came up with to some extent, or am I over thinking this?

They aren't shut off...completely. I hiked in there just fine. Couldn't take my pickup, but on foot or horseback you're good to go. That being said, it sucks Wilks' crew can still drive in, and it takes some serious hiking to get to a lot of that area.
