This unit is the most unenjoyable hunting I have personally experienced. I live an hour south, so I've hunted does a few times to fill the freezer but it's never much fun. So much pressure and uninspiring terrain.
I feel bad for guys from the east who make the trip out thinking they're going...
I don't think CPW is going to come up with a system that makes everyone happy. Frankly, I don't know why they should. On any given day, you can snag a great tag without burning your preference points. The demand is always going to exceed the supply. If anything, I'd like to see some preference...
Doug, the GIS info and articles are helpful. Your speculation surrounding an area you seem to be unfamiliar with is not. But please let me know when the fire crosses into Idaho.
I hope the impacts on recreation in the Poudre Canyon aren't terrible but I'm not optimistic. It was 7 years after...
Picking up re-issues is like hunting deer in 3rd season. The longer you can hold out, the better it gets.
It certainly benefits residents when tags are re-issued during the season or days before.
The fire grew along it's northern edge but certainly did not explode. It moved to the NE and there was concern it would reach Glacier View and Red Feather. The majority of additional acreage was to the south and east.
In a perfect world, this fire would have burned NW and cleaned up the beetle...
Along the Front Range you typically find yellow morels around late April/early May near rivers or under cottonwood. Black morels show up early summer in burns. The timing alone makes it suspect.
Man, some people can't help but waive their tribal flags. Pretty sad.
9/11 happened just a few weeks into my senior year of high school. I grew up 20 miles north of NYC and can vividly recall the beautiful, cloudless sky as I walked from the parking lot into school. Towards the end of 1st...
In general, the habitat and populations are better on the west side of the Park Range. I see bears, scat and cut tracks every year when I'm hunting those units during 1st season. It feels like there's a bear in every drainage.
Get high and glass. You should be able to find some.
I scored a decent 3rd season deer tag on my phone while waiting in line at a license vendor.
Despite the system crashes and occasional disappointment, I love the CO reissue process.
Area 69 had a bunch of type 6 leftovers last year. One of very few leftover options with significant public access.
My assumption is that applicants thought is was a sure thing and the odds cratered.
I grew up going to the AMNH almost every month. Outside of time spent in the woods and on the water, some of my most cherished memories of my father are from that museum. Having said that, I can recall my father's displeasure of TR leading the savages towards the light... Still, I'm not happy to...
Would you like me to tell you that I've been called the N-word? Or how many times I've been told that black people don't fly fish or hunt? Or any other number of incidents that are related to my skin color? I don't really see the need to rehash but rest assured, it's happened.
As I mentioned...
Although I'm not a regular poster on here, I regularly lurk and I imagine that I'm one of the few black members of this forum. Reading this thread over the past few days has been eye opening; both uplifting and deeply depressing. My spirits have been boosted seeing a newfound interest and...
I think you’re on the right path.
A significant portion of the deer in North Park move north and winter in Wyoming. I’d be patrolling the burns along the border.
For $9 it’s worth buying a point.
I picked up a reissued license last season that’s typically a 5 point tag for NRs. I’d compare the experience to a Wyoming * unit- decent amounts of animals, small pieces of public land and lots of hunters. That said, a 70 inch buck is very doable. Just don’t...
That will be tough in Wyoming. Unlike Montana, you can't legally access rivers from most bridges. You would also need to be certain flows are high enough to float the entire stretch without needing to get out to drag the boat- the river bottom is still private property. The possibility of ice on...
