Anyone ever attempted to try it out? I would wait for an any elk tag but it's all private land. And Ive heard that landowners like a big check before a bull leaves. But I would throw in for a cow tag, most likely unit 11. Any info is greatly appreciated guys.
I lost fifteen pounds deer hunting in western SD this year so I know how hard it gets but congrats. Gotta feel good to know you guys batted .750 on elk this fall!
Guys I have the itch to bow hunt for elk, but there's a catch. I work every day in Sept until the end of the month most years. So if I could bowhunt the end of the month or first part of October it would work the best. I have Montana narrowed down to the location. Now if someone could explain...
If I were you coming to SD to hunt Archery mule deer in December I'd come before rifle season out there. I hunted Perkins County this fall and even during gun season a decent mule deer was hard to come by. So coming out in December you'd be hard pressed to shoot on with a bow after 16 days of...
When do these usually become available? I don't think I will be able to apply for first choice because my boss has 19 years on an elk tag in the black Hills and won't know if he draws until end of May I believe. So if he doesn't draw I can leave in October, otherwise he's going to be gone for...
Well apparently the state of SD values cattle in the Black Hills more than the elk so they issue more elk tags because they eat the cattles grass... I think the gfp in the state needs a swift kick in the @ss and realize that elk make them way more money than a few grazing permits...
Shot my first antelope yesterday. Waited a couple years to go and I made the most of it I thought. First buck I found on public ground and made a 370 yard shot. He is no trophy by any means but I was stoked to put my tag on him.
Only thing that sucks is that they have big mule deer in the SD hills but they let the landowners have half of the 200 tags right away. And I guarantee they don't hunt on their private land either.
New to the forum. I was just wondering how many guys hunt unit 02A41 for antelope in South Dakota. I applied for it today. I figured they have tags and a lot of public land so why not try it. If I draw it would be my first antelope hunt. Thanks!
Just bring the 06 and use it for it all, worrying about the gun should be minimal cuz you have too much invested in the hunt.. That's what I would do at least.
Well the deer get worked over from rifle season in November so the public land deal gets burned pretty hard. I guess if I were you I wouldn't go with a lot of expectations other than to hunt and if it turns out OK then you did fine. If I had the time I'd go out the first week or two of Nov and...
