Bird Dog, great post! Most guys don't push themselves to that extent & that's why ones will suffer in the elkwoods over a 5-10 day hunt! I can see guys who are in decent shape already & are under 45, but once you get to that age & over, training is absolutely necessary to to keep up the pace...
Sore is good, no pain no gain!! If not sore somewhat the next day after a workout especially a good one then a guys slacking! (grin) Got to use those unused muscles!!

Yes, as a resident you can purchase both types, A-Tag & B-Tag or two of either one-- The 2nd tag will cost you the N/R price! This is as long as there are N/R tags left over which there generally are, you can obtain it Aug 1st but not before!

Weather & timing of the rut is much more critical to a hunter than the full moon itself! I'm not saying that the full moon phases have no bearing on timing of an elks daily movements, they do, but rutting trumps it! Too, those rainy cloudy nights & the full moon is a moot point! The main factor...
Don't worry about the wolves, your inexperience is your biggest hurdle! (grin) Unit 39 is a very quality unit, it's got decent elk & deer numbers. I would consider areas from Idaho city to Bogus Basin to Arrowrock Res. that's a huge area with scouting needed physically if possible as well as...
Guys, thanks again for the kind words!
Jose, When I mentioned this thought. "These is especially so for archery elk hunters but can also apply to rifle hunts!" I was just saying in a nutshell that selective sounds could be used by both archery hunters & rifle hunters. We know that most rifle...
Lawnboy, the PlayBook link only shows 4-5 pages in the beginning, middle & end, that's how our editor has it setup! Thanks for noticing though! (grin)
RockyDog, ahh, gotcha, I like that phrase "ElkNut Stuff" (grin) Never heard that one before!
Guys, I appreciate your comments & your...
Rockydog, I did mention a while back about that hunt. Not sure what you mean about your "stuff" though? We didn't get there till Oct. 6th, it was snow & rain, mostly snow for the time frame, not the best for archery hunting elk. We left at the end of the 3rd day, I did not fill the tag but...
Randy, no problem! I think I can do that! I'm a bit PC challenged but will give it a shot! (grin) Thanks!

Hunting bull elk on public land is no gimme or an easy task to say the least. With more & more hunters out there wanting to hunt these great animals it's no wonder they get educated. It's up to us as hunters to understand what makes elk tick? We need to know when to Stalk/Ambush elk & with no...
For us Topos are the way to go! We use USGS Topos in the 1-24000 7.5 minute styles! We use our GPS units settings to coincide with the UTM Grids so they both read exact, this is great for land navigation. Of course we never leave camp without its companion compass! Good Luck!

Muzzy heads are quality heads! We've taken quite a few elk with them, they're tough as any fixed bladed head on the market today! Just make sure you do not hunt with the heads you target practice with. Always make sure you use new heads or replace all blades so they're razor sharp in your...
