One of my views on basic 1st aid.

Yep I read that & some other pro & con opinions. I'm still convinced it helps with cerebral perfusion. As a side note; MAST Trousers work in relationship to cerebral perfusion/consciousness. Via depression of the body's lower arterial/venous system. Thus assisting in retaining consciousness. I...

One of my views on basic 1st aid.

City Fire Dept & County Ambulance Services I worked for. Both carried MAST Trousers as part of their EMS equipment. Mainly for the use of stabilizing pelvic /leg fractures & to assist in upper body blood volume perfusion. The only "con" that I'm aware of for the non-use of MAST Trousers. Would...

One of my views on basic 1st aid.

For those who do not know. M.A.S.T Trousers are Military Anti-Shock Trousers. Worn by fighter pilots. They are air operated pneumatic trousers. That inflate during G-force situations. To compress the lower extremities & abdomen. To assist in forcing lower extremity/abdomen blood volume. Up to...

One of my views on basic 1st aid.

I whole heartedly disagree. However, that is your instructors option to believe as they wish. I understand there are varied opinions referring to the "Trendelenburg" position for treating shock. Some say it helps, some disagree. I look at as helping to keep the brain perfused. Somewhat semilar...

One of my views on basic 1st aid.

A few points of basic knowledge/skill; Basic 1st aid does not always require specialized equipment/knowledge. A layperson can often get by using common sense(Best to remain calm). Stopping bleeding; Direct pressure over the wound is best. Arterial or large vein wounds can often require extremely...

    Frozen hands

During Wintertime predator hunts with the WC below zero. I wear a full head polyester knitted facemask. Over that, I wear a full head & neck. Nomex Fire hood. Nomex fire hoods as in a firefighting hood. Are fire resistive & have an extremely tight weave. Which work extremely well at blocking...

    Frozen hands

Coldest day I've hunted coyotes was -40WC. I've hunted numerous times >-20WC. One hunt worth noting was around -28WC. I snuck in on a pr of coyotes 5/8 mile from the road. I shot the closest one once I went prone on a hill top. Hit that coyote midship. As the coyote ran in circles & pronked like...

    Fence jumpers

That is a 4' high fence separating property lines. Very common in my hunt areas. I believe the lower 1/2 is woven wire. top strands are barbed wire.

    Fence jumpers

Coyotes don't jump fences. They go through or under them he said. Well alright then said I. haha

    Spot/stalking a coyote

Typical of my hunt area. We do have timbered areas. But I focus my time on the open rolling hills. Fence line is 1/2 mile out from the roadway.

    Maintaining Life

I believe it is not necessary to be all that knowledgeable, in order to save a life. The most basic of 1st aid can & does save lives. I've responded on many county 911 emergency calls. Whereas that area's county First Responders. No doubt saved lives.

    Maintaining Life

Outdoors men & women. Having a basic understanding of human anatomy(Airway, Breathing & Circulation). It is wise to review the importance/understanding on how too keep ourselves alive, let alone someone else. On the internet, anyone can find videos & or human anatomy charts. To assist us in...

    What's in the brand name?

I've owned a couple Savage centerfires many yrs ago. They were both plane jane no frill rifles. But were the most accurate rifles out of the box. One thing I never liked about Savage rifles. Were their thick clunky stocks.

I edited my post. Actually the Glascow Coma scale is rated 0-15. Zero being the worst number given to a trauma patient. So if a trauma patient has a low scale number. They are in sorry condition. I do not remember the scoring now days.

I could not believe she was still alive. I give women more credit than I do men for the most part. For taking punishing physical trauma. I've seen it many times. I fail to remember a lot of medical terminology. As it's been many yrs since I was a medic. There are some tough men. However, most...
