My longest kill with a TTSX, was an Antelope at 430 yards. My wife’s longest kill with a TTSX was a bear at 380 yards. We’ve both taken elk at 400 with TSX’s. Both performed quite well. We prefer the TTSX’s due to the higher BC’s, as we have a lot of longer shots offered. memtb
From coyotes to moose, with the same rifle/bullet....so far, everything has been one shot kills. Of course, I’ve been lucky with decent placement! For those that are concerned about expansion on smaller game, a 300 +/- yard shot on an Antelope with a high shoulder shot (misjudged distance....I...
I guess it depends upon your definition of “big” game. If elk, moose and bear are in the equation, then my wife’s choice may be a good cartridge. She uses her .338 WM for everything from Pronghorn, up to/through Moose! She’s pretty fond of it’s performance on game! If larger big game is on the...
I’ve seen many that I wouldn’t use, but, that’s not saying that they shouldn’t be used for elk! If the hunter is “willing” to stay within the capabilities of the cartridge....then all is well! Heck, a .22 RF is adequate... provided it is used within it’s “ very narrow” performance capabilities...
If a bullet spins too fast, I believe that the term is called “yaw”. The bullet can actually be de-stabilized by “overspinning”, causing a loss of accuracy! memtb
A Winchester (lever action) Model 255 22 Magnum Rimfire. A pretty little rifle, terrible trigger pull, acceptable accuracy.....I couldn’t justify the expense or need of 22 magnum ammo. I was loading cast Bullets in my handguns and my .308 Win. cheaper than I could buy 22 mag. ammo! I fairly...
VikingsGuy, It’s a .375 AI. Loading for your 280 AI will likely be a little less expensive than for my AI! Good Luck with your 280 AI, I’ve heard nothing but “rave” reviews about the cartridge! memtb
Just as an example, “if” I were to purchase ammo from one of the major retailers, for my “retired” hunting rifle....the price for a 20 round box starts at the upper $50.00’s and goes to near $100.00, depending upon the type of bullet used. I can (and do) load with a somewhat expensive “premium...
Panda Bear, She actually “only” shot my .375 H&H a few times. After we married, and we had “big” plans to hunt big game in various places, we got her a SS Winchester Model 70 in .338 WM. That rifle scoped, loaded, and slung weighs in @ 8 pounds 15 oz. She uses the Barnes 225 TTSX @ 2950 for...
Unless you have a sub- 9 pound .375 H&H, it’s not unpleasant to shoot. When I was dating my, “now”, wife...she ran 4 rounds (from seated position on ground) of 300 “grainers” through my Winchester Model 70. She looked up at me and said.....”that’s not bad at all”! That’s when I knew that I had...
The .375 H&H, and then the .375 AI have been my “only” hunting cartridges since 1982.....I never thought of it as “not” mainstream. I also have cast bullet loads for both! ;) memtb
We’ve taped muzzles for many years. We (wife and I) keep a roll of electrical tape in our day packs. The muzzle can be re-wrapped after a shot is taken. Plus....the electrical tape can be used for a multitude of uses, from first aid to rifle repair. If you have a need and an imagination .....the...
Welcome “aboard”.....pun intended! Hopefully you will enjoy your time shared here. There is one “itsy bitty, teeny, requirement.....often overlooked. Tell us a little about yourself! ;) Again, Welcome! memtb

Also, without getting too personal, tell us a little about yourself! Where your from, what is your...
I mostly agree with keeping it dry! However, is it possible to get it too dry, thereby promoting something similar to a capillary effect, or sponge effect.....it could potentially “suck up” moisture at a higher rate when exposed to moisture laden air. Example being, when the canister is opened...
I don’t think that having been run after being “spooked” is as relevant as to their diet or water consumed.
Many years ago, I head shot a doe mule deer during a late season hunt. She was feeding and totally unaware of my presence. Instant kill! After processing her, we couldn’t eat her and had...
I was driving a two track to my hunt area, jumped a spike mule deer (my first mule deer), and shot him at about 20 yards as he sprinted across in front of me. He ran out of sight in the timber, circled around, and fell in the two track behind me.....about 10 yards! memtb
