I’ve killed deer on a NWR here in SC with dolphins chasing mullet in a tidal creek just yards from my tree stand which was in a Palmetto tree. The trail out to the peninsula I was hunting goes underwater in a couple of spots on high tide. Having a horseshoe crab cross you path isn’t something...
I had a Browning A Bolt II 25-06. 115 Ballistic Silvertips were my favorite factory load. 117 Gamekings over 4831 Were my preferred hand load. I killed a ton of deer and pigs with that rifle. Sold it to a friend and it’s still hammering deer as far as I know . I’ve got an older wood stocked ADL...
I’ve had a few. It was unexceptional. Not great but not bad. They were fairly common until steel shot was mandated. The first loads were bad, and heavy payloads at high velocity were what was wanted and the Sixteen didn’t deliver. Same with shooting driven deer with buckshot. The sixteen sucked...
I shoot TSS and it is very lethal. That said Ive killed 3 so far this season. Doubled at 15 yds and and a single at 25. All could have been killed with a dove / skeet load of 7.5 lead. The focus seems to be shifting from how close can I get one, to how far can I kill one.
I’ve got a VX 5 HD 3-15x44 with the CDS ZL. It tracks true and returns to zero. I left the 1/4” MOA cap on mine. That way it’s not a one trick pony slaved to one load and one set of atmospheric conditions.
I’ve only shot 7s and it has passed thru all the birds I’ve shot so far. I’m not a long gunner though, 45 yds is my farthest kill with TSS and he went down in a heap.
I flew out to TX to kick off Turkey season with some longtime hunting buddies. We’ve got access to a ranch about an hour south of San Antonio.
I spent Saturday hunting with a buddy and blew an opportunity at a nice bird due to a mis communication. We rallied and eventually he closed the deal on...
I would say it’s a bad idea in part because of who introduced it. A career politician from a gerrymandered district that has done NOTHING to improve the lives of his constituents while simultaneously exponentially increasing his and his family’s wealth in one of the poorest regions of South...
I have a few times. Cooler with head hide and meat was 55 pounds. I shipped overnight on my Fed Ex acct. It cost less than extra baggage fee. Cooler was sitting in my driveway when I got home and meat was still frozen.
We drive straight thru from coastal SC.
Draw your tags and then figure out what public you can access. Go early find goats then camp out on then so you can kill them the first morning. Openers in the low point units are a zoo. It seemed exponentially worse the last couple of years.
Nice shooting BillT.
My most accurate factory rifle is a Savage 112J .222 Single shot. Heavy barreled , heavy walnut stock with a palm swell. I’ve shot several five round groups under a half inch with it.
Second would be a 700 Mountain in .270. It shoots way better than a whispy barreled...
Reelfoot is a shitshow. Permanent blinds on public water is a recipe for disaster. From what I’ve read about the incident this was an ongoing feud.
I’ve all but quit duck hunting. At one time it was my passion, I hunted almost every day of the season. My two sons love it as well, but there are...
