You just like to correct. Even when it's not needed. Show me a 5" antler that isn't a brow tine. I don't mention the obvious. All I said is a lot of units. No mention of popular units. Black bear scenario
I've never been able to pattern a bear but I can only hunt bear in the fall. They're looking for food and move around too much. You might have better luck in the spring. It won't hurt to try.- Muley_Stalker

I don't get your curiosity? Would you explain? For the record. I hunt for bear for the same reason I hunt all big game. The challenge, meat, and conservation. I don't like bears but I wouldn't kill one to just kill it. That's not me.- Muley_Stalker

That's right. Like hunt for bears. One predator after another predator. I use fair chase against bears like I do for all game. Do I need to like them too? Not going to happen. I feel the same way about bears that I do for coyotes.- Muley_Stalker

Oh, I see. Well, bears do something that makes me give them less respect. They eat newborn fawns and calves. So, I have little compassion for them. That doesn't change any of my rules on how I hunt them. I give them a fair chance.- Muley_Stalker

You have three options for bear hunting. Stake out natural food sources. Call them in. Spot and stalk. I don't know the laws in NM but in my state baiting is illegal.
