When I picked up this shed the other day, I immediately wondered of the legality of it. I think I know if it is legal or not, but wanted to see if anyone is shooting this bull in Colorado...

All points are greater than 1”. So it’s a 5 point. That elk is DTR.

Excellent, good to hear everyone is shooting! I would too, but could see it being hard to judge in the field.

You better be able to see those points. Get new binos or eyes. Total legal. No ?

Thats pretty sweet. I would turn it into a naginata - sharpen one edge then mount it on a pole. Put some warpaint on my face and feathers in my hair then run around the woods swinging it round like some sort of native american ninja. Double culture appropriation.

Straight from page 36 of the 2021 Big Game Brochure. There should be zero debate or question, it's a legal bull.

AN ANTLER POINT is a projection of antler at least 1 inch long and which is longer than the width of its base. A BROW TINE means a projection of the antler at least 5 inches long located on the lower half of the antler.

▶ RESTRICTIONS: Bull elk taken in all seasons must have four points or more on one antler, OR a brow tine of at least 5 inches long in GMUs: 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45, 47, 52, 53, 54, 55, 59, 60, 62, 63, 64, 65, 66, 67, 68, 70, 71, 72, 73, 74, 75, 77, 78, 79*, 80, 81, 82, 83, 85, 86, 131, 140, 161, 171, 181, 191, 211, 214, 231, 301, 361, 371, 411, 421, 441, 444, 471, 511, 521, 551, 581, 591, 681, 691, 711, 741, 751, 771, 851 and 861.

▶ NO RESTRICTIONS: There are no antler-point restrictions for any season in GMUs: 1, 2, 10, 20, 29, 39, 40, 46, 48, 49, 50, 51, 56, 57, 58, 61, 69, 76, 84, 201, 391, 461, 481, 500, 501, 561, 682, 791 or units east of I-25 (except unit 140). Antlers must meet the minimum length of 5 inches long.

▶ RANCHING FOR WILDLIFE: There are no antler-point restrictions on Ranching for Wildlife properties, but antlers must meet the minimum length of 5 inches long.

depends on a bunch of factors> but on a meat hunt yes.

I'd shoot that every time! I am always trying to put meat in the freezer... so first legal animal that I am hunting is one that I am taking. It usually ends up getting me smaller animals, but that's ok... the meat tastes better anyhow.

Most units the public hunts elk in do have restrictions though, and in those it's a 5" brow tine, not just 5" of antler...
You just like to correct. Even when it's not needed. Show me a 5" antler that isn't a brow tine. I don't mention the obvious.

All I said is a lot of units. No mention of popular units. Although my unit is one of the unpopular units according to you. OP made no mention of what unit he found it in.

Nothing I said was wrong and needed no correction!

Someone piss in your coffee this morning? You're right, you probably didn't need correcting, the guy who posted the rules straight from CPW did a much better job than you though. I'm sure some knucklehead already read your post and will take it to the bank on a spike this fall in a point-restriction zone...
