Anybody Buying Yet? Where’s the Bottom?

Looks like the furious snap-back rally remains intact...I plan on being long not only for this weekend, but for the next decade or so. Lots will happen between now and then, and I won't sell a thing, but will just continue to buy the S&P on any good declines. I bet the S&P will be much higher...

OnX is still my go to, most utilized, hunting app by far.

Wyoming Elk NR Application Numbers for 2022?

I bet NR applications continue to increase marginally upwards this year and will continue to do so until the country slips into the next recession, which may not be that far off. Once that happens, and the average Joe is no longer flush, the bottom will fall out from NR applications. Rinse...

Anybody Buying Yet? Where’s the Bottom?

Simple, because it's supposed to show you what the returns are if you just set it and forget it over a career's worth of working time and that's actual return, not just hypothetical. Trying to time the market is a fools game. To me, the 10,000% gain shown in the example I provided is incredible...

Anybody Buying Yet? Where’s the Bottom?

Sucks for sure and not saying we won’t go lower, nevertheless, if you are a long-term investor (5+ years), these are the kind of days that you buy the market, not sell it. And forget individual stocks unless you are just trading them for fun, just go for an S&P index like VOO and stick to it for...

    Backpack for stand hunting

I really like the Kuiu stalker pack. It's very small, but is big enough for everything needed in a kill kit and some extras. For extra layers, I just simply attach them to the pack with the straps it comes with. In 40 years of deer hunting, this little pack has easily become my favorite pack for...

We Should Turn Preference Points/Bonus Points into a Commodity

Can you imagine the increase in pp purchases by the gen public if they were tradeable on the open market…Talk about a shit show.

3 Week season for Mule Deer

Would love to see a 3 week season for R7 limited to October. Too bad that will likely not be a reality in foreseeable future.

    Pre-scouting

Agree with what others have said. Go 3 or 4 days right before your hunt, rather than over the summer. I’ve done both in the past and it paid off much more for me to scout right before the season. If you can’t do that, then by all means go over the summer as it will be much better than not...

    Thoughts on Kuiu products (clothing)?

I have a lot of Sitka products and some Kuiu. I like them both, but I think the durability of Sitka, at least in my experience, is much better. Don’t have any First Lite products so can’t comment on those.

    Cabela's gift card

I was in same boat with a Cabelas gift card and didn’t really want or need anything from that store. Then I remembered that I needed to replace my sunglasses which I recently lost while deer hunting locally and made good use of that card.

Hot Tenting for Mid-Season Elk Hunts?

Expect any kind of weather during October, including temps well below zero. Therefore, a hot tent can be the difference between enduring the suck weather and having a good hunt or having to call your hunt early…

    Investing for kids.

I set up 529s when my kids were born and now I have one starting college next year and the other has 3 years to go. I've always used the automatic contribution option and you will get used to that pretty quickly. One tip, carefully select the right 529 plan and keep in mind that you do not have...

Montana FWP makes seismic shift in elk permits

Couldn't agree more and I would add that the same could be said for mule deer and antelope. Wish MT would just cut and paste WY big game management structure...everything except for the NR wilderness rule ;)

Good tent for 3rd season elk CO

My base camps are typically in the 7-8K ft range and I haven't had any issues running the buddy heater. I've camped with temps at night dipping to -20 and the big buddy heater was enough to keep the tent warm. I think for quality of tent, durability in extreme weather, and ease of setup, the...

    Will eating meat become illegal?

Doubt it will ever be illegal, but the way meat is produced will surely change in the future. The technology to grow real meat in a lab (cultured meat) already exists, it’s now just a matter of scaling it in a way that it’s a cheaper alternative. Once that happens, and for better or for worse...
