    Best Hunting pad

+1 for the Neo Air X-Therm. Wish I went with the 25" wide instead of the regular that saved a couple ounces. I would gladly trade the weight to not roll off my pad at night.

Mystery ranch quick draw rifle sling

Sucks! I picked one up at Scheels on my way out to CO for this year's elk hunt. I'm a lefty so the Stone glacier one didn't work with my MR pack and I didn't like to sideways cant of the under-arm gunbearers. The MR sling would slide off every 3 or 4 steps if I was lucky. It took about 15...

    Favorite Backpacking Meals

+1 MH Biscuits & Gravy. I also love plain bagels with JFG peanut butter singles and honey packets. I always throw in some dark chocolate squares that make the day better. Last year I dehydrated some lasagna and it turned out well. Had to play with the amount of water needed but tasted good...

I'm right over the mountain from you geetar. I used Scheels to try on different brands as they have a great return policy. I'd try a pair for a couple weeks indoors, send it back, and try another one. Schnee's also provided the paid postage for a return. I tried Kenetreks, Zamberlan...

    Left-hand rifle options

Check Oregunsmithing, Mesa precision arms, and Manners has a bad ass new tikka stock with adjustable cheek piece. I put the vertical grip on my Tikka t3x and I am very happy with it.

    Left-hand rifle options

+1 for the Tikka. Smooth action and very accurate. Get the vertical grip. Also recommend the Browning; very high quality rifle and its not too much to get one cerakoted.

    Boot Buying Dilemma

Find some online retailers that offer free returns. I went through 4 different brands of boots before choosing on Lowa Tibets.

Mystery ranch Marshall or beartooth 80.

I've had the Marshall for 2 years and have packed 2 5-9 day hunts in it. I've also used it for 25+ day hunts for whitetail. I feel like I've been fairly hard on it and it has held up extremely well. I like the lid for organizing my gear and I use the front pockets for my rain gear and a...

Out of nowhere I may be getting a new rig......

I was an '06 only hunter for nearly 20 years until I got a 300 RUM. The recoil in a light 700 Rem CDL made it awful to shoot and really took the excitement out of a new rifle. 2 years ago I got a Tikka in 7mm RM. I loved it instantly, started reloading, and love it even more. If this new rig was...

    EOY '19 - What Worked, What Didn't?

WORKED Lowa Tibets - Got them 3 days before my elk hunt after trying 4 different brands of new boots. They worked great Schnee's Pac boots when it got in the single digits and snow piled up MR Marshall - This year was my first solo bc elk hunt and it handled all my gear First Lite puffy pants -...

    Left handed rifle suggestions

I have a Tikka T3x Lite 7mm rem mag, a Browning A Bolt medallion in 30-06 and Remington 700 in 300 RUM. The Tikka is the best shooter, Browning has the most memories, and Im not a fan of the Remington. Holding out for a Winchester model 70 in 338 or appropriate action size to rebarrel.

    Kenetrek or Schnees packboots

+1 for Schnee's Hunter IIs. Only had them 1 year but they fit great and have kept my feet very warm and dry. Ordered my regular size and they fit perfect with a thick pair of merino wool socks.

    Fire kit

Wet fire cubes, lighter, and some REI weatherproof matches with the strike strip cut out from the box. Also have a 35mm film canister with cotton balls soaked in vasoline and magnesium powder. I have the same magnesium stick with rod that I took a file to and added the pieces in with the...

    Barrel Recommendations

Oregunsmithing will make you a VERY lightweight stock in left hand which will probably save you more weight than changing contours. I have several Douglas barrels and I highly recommend them. Fully finished with both options would put you between $1100-1200

    Dehydrated Meal Containers

Try these mylar bags. Different sizes with windows to see what you packed. I label each bag with a sharpie. They hold up pretty well and they're cheap...

    Fall black bear tips

In TN I find fall bears in the berry patches on SOUTH slopes. They produce berries longer into the season as our bear seasons go into late December. All the north facing patches I found were dormant by early November.
