    Great buck. Were you dragging him whole for 6 hours? Seams like it would have been easier to quarter him out and carry him if he was that far from your wheeler.

    Woke us all up from a dead sleep. 3yo came running in completely freaked out. Felt more like a momentary impact rather than an ongoing rumble. Not like any other earthquake I've ever felt. Per the inter webs the epicenter was 12 km east of Dillon.

    I just bought a honda fourtrax 300 for the same reason. I can lift one end and drag it around and manhandle it if I need to. I do think 4x4 would be advantageous though.

    Then why do you split the pelvis and rib cage if you are going to quarter or debone right away? Honest question To get it cool faster if you plan to leave the carcass whole for an amount of time, but if you quarter it right away then it seams like it'd be a waste of time to split it?

    Its not difficult to ring the hide right below the hock and snap the lower leg right off. Leaves the tendon in tact for handle too. No way I'd carry a saw just for that.
