We brought the Bayou to Saskatchewan

I love doing boils! Once we found out we could trap a surprisingly decent amount of crawdads in Colorado we’ve been hooked. (I would’ve never thought it with all the ice all winter long, but they are thick!) Now if I could just find an economical way to get some blue crabs in it.

    2021 AZ Spring Javelina

Congrats! Those are some cool little animals! I spent sometime in Sierra Vista and Tucson and have a plan to get back down there one day for these guys! Especially seeing as how I’m in a foot of snow now haha. Way to go!

    Courtesies of elk hunting?

You’ll see other people, just the nature of public land. I see other folks often, generally I simply wave and move on. If we pass on a trail then I’ll stop and talk, share information. Generally folks are more receptive if they hear you have a cow/doe tag. Trucks at trailheads don’t deter me...

    What’s in the Crockpot Today?

Looks amazing! Do you feel as though the bananas add flavor? I know banana leaves are traditional but I always figured they helped with holding in moisture more than flavor. I might have to try this.

    Single or double drop tine?

I would say a drop as it comes off the main beam and then a kicker as it kicks out from the tine. That is an absolute stud of a deer also! Love seeing them with their necks all swelled up (at least it looks that way in the picture) and rutting!

    Trout caviar? Why not

So we went out and got some rainbows for the smoker, one of them was full of eggs, figured I’d try rather than letting the go to waste. My Grandpa used to fry all the eggs from bluegills. I wanted to try something else. Hank Shaw has a recipe for trout caviar. Very simple stuff. They turned out...

    Yellow perch in Colorado

Hey guys, I’m trying to target perch through the ice. I’ve caught some during the summer as incidental catches to bluegills. However, I want to try targeting them now. What are some good techniques, baits, depths etc. I stay mainly in northern Colorado front range (I’m in Loveland) so most of...

    Roadkill Summer Sausage

I used the original and I’m pleased with the result. That being said I am going to add some whole mustard seed, cracked pepper, and garlic powder next time I make it.

    Roadkill Summer Sausage

Grabs a little mulie doe a that co-workers car became intimately familiar with last week. We were able to salvage about half the meat. Colorado offers roadkill salvage tags thankfully. Used some of the meat to make summer sausage. The LEM seasoning kit and we added in some high temperature...

    2020 Antelope

This antelope hunt almost did not occur. This was a leftover tag. I am building points for a better unit with a rifle. However, my Elk and Deer hunting plans for September were falling through, so I decided to pick up this leftover Muzzle loading Buck tag. Now hunting Antelope generally...

    2020 Spring Bears Thread

I love seeing all these bears! Makes me wish Colorado had a spring season, I’ll be venturing north next spring for sure!

    ...

How physically demanding would you say this hunt is? Obviously when you leave the beach it gets rough going, but if you stayed away from the woods. I would like to take my Dad on this hunt, but he’s not in very good shape and wouldn’t enjoy it if he felt like he was holding me back. He’d have no...
