Only been out once so far, but caught a few

Been getting out a bit the last week or so...doing alright. Not big numbers, but the ones I've caught have been worth it. Just cant get on any big schools of perch, about 6-10 a day is all I can find.

Buzz, I’m just curious, did those perch come out of really deep water or are they just that fat naturally? Deep water pressure changes?

I’m going to go ice fish Green Bay or Saginaw bay next year. Probably hire a guide for a day because the varyability of the ice on the Great Lakes scares the crap out of me even though I’ve ice fished my whole life. Green Bay seems more stable once it forms then the other bays though? Awesome day of fishing!

I can understand that for sure, good to have a healthy respect for the ice as it can be very variable. I have rented guide shacks on the bay and we also go on our own some too. If you are going to go on the bay of GB with a guide, I can give you some ideas on who to go with and who not to go with.

had to cross a little open water to get to the good ice:

Ended up keeping a dozen bluegills and crappies. Not bad for 2.5 hours midday.

My son and I caught a limit of eater perch a few weeks back. He and I took a friend/co worker from Texas for pike a few days ago. It was his first time on the ice and he caught and released a 40” pike. Taking my 3 kids out to chase tipups for late ice pike tomorrow if getting on the ice is still doable.

Finished up the ice fishing season yesterday with a half dozen of these....had to keep this one that was hooked too hard. Rest are still swimming. This one was 21 inches had a couple bigger by a couple inches.

It was in 60s monday so packed up ice fishing stuff and jumped in river next to house. I hate fishing late ice, to wet and always looking for bad spots. Time to start getting ready for turkey then bear season, and couple weeks of spring spawn runs.

The ice out this way has been sketchy much of the season so our adventures have been limited. My 4 year old LOVES to ice fish! Here's his first walleye.
