    Caldwell Velociradar

Have not seen one in action but if it doe as as advertised it would certainly have a leg up on the Garmin. My ProChrono still works great, but if I’m lucky enough to shoot it one day, the Velociradar may be my choice to replace it.

    300 BO Sub-sonic

I burn a lot of lil gun in my BO, but for light supersonic loads. Works great at pressure. Try 1680 for subs.

    “D” rated tire opinions

I like E rated tires, but I’ll give up MPGs for a comfortable ride. I only inflate for my actual weight, not GVWR.

    7mm-08 rem

Put either in the right spot and it will die.

    300 BO Sub-sonic

It’s a bolt rifle so that shouldn’t be an issue

    300 BO Sub-sonic

Seems strange. Don’t have much to add. Even though you are using small charges, case volume is small and shouldn’t cause that much variation. Maybe try magnum primers for more consistent ignition. I find H110 to be very inconsistent unless pressures are high enough for consistent burns. H110 is...

    6.5 STW vs 6.5 Weatherby

Back when the STW was new (30yrs ago?) and very little data, we barreled a rifle with the full length blank which was I think 32 inches. After about 300 rounds of load development we cut 4 inches off the chamber end, rechambered, and had a "new" 28 inch barrel that we already had load data for...

How many hunting rifles do you have?

11 that are serious hunting rifles. I try to use 3 a year. Some get rotated in more often than others. All have drawn blood. Must have sold at least another ten over the years. .243, .250-3000 (X2), 257R, 7-08 (X2), 7SAUM, 280AI, 30-30, .358STA, .38-55 Sako, Remington, Cooper, Ruger...

    New Old Gun

Yeah, that's the first thing that popped into my head reading this thread.

    Peep sight trouble

The globe can definitely keep you from centering the front sight, but it still shouldn't keep you from having a consistent sight picture. Stop worrying about where the front sight is. Your eye will put it where it wants it. Sight it in based on how and where your eye wants to put the front...

Looking for suggestions on a new caliber

The 25-06 is pretty dang good for any deer out there. What exactly do you want this new cartridge to do that the 25-06 isn't capable? What new rifle are you wanting to get? I'm all for a new gun. What cartridges does that gun come in?

    Gun cleaning frequency

I can't even imagine cleaning every time I shoot. It's not like we're still shooting mercury and nitrocellulose. I clean my semiautos when they tell me they need cleaning. I clean my bolt guns about once a year unless accuracy starts to fall off. My long range benchrest guns probably 2-3...

Favorite gun for shooting STOP signs?

I was raised right, so I don't shoot stop signs. My Dad instilled in me the ethics and morals not to drink and shoot at the same time. Road beers are another matter. Always long necks as the sound is pleasing, even at high speed. Now, about this stop sign stealing. Just don't do it...

This has been bothering me for a while.

Mayonnaise on everything. I mean, WTF. If I wanted that gross stuff on my food I'd ask for it. Worms in tequila. There is not, nor have there ever been, a worm in Tequila.

Any .358 Norma Magnum owners out there?

I went the 358STA route built on a M70. 250gr at 2850fps. Has been good for bear, caribou, goat, deer, wolf, moose, and probably a few things I don't remember. If I had it to do over though I think I would have built a 375WBY and called it good. The 358NM should be in a pretty sweet spot for...

    Weight Loss Drugs

I'm a clinical hospital pharmacist. I'm pretty much against taking anything you don't need. Far too many people look for the easy answer in life instead of putting in the work. Everyone's story is different though. For those who truly try to lose weight and have health issues, drugs may be...

Why do you like your gaiters?

The elastic top on my short Kennetreks either pulled out at the seam or broke at the seam last week in goat country. I only pull the tops tight when crossing water, so they don't really get pulled on often. I like the gaiters but feel the elastic should not have broken with so little use.

Lessons learned from MG scouting trip

I've been chasing goats for almost 30 years. I still buy and try new gear. Put your money in your boots first, then your pack. Don't take half the stuff you think you need. Get in shape, physically and mentally. It's supposed to hurt. Embrace it. Good luck to you. Hope you have a great hunt.

    Montana S/G/M results 2024

Another week spent in 323. Lot of goats. Wish I had a tag.
