Uncle Randy (@Big Fin), I am begging you for a recap HuntTalk podcast episode with @SCliving Outdoors once he finishes his safari. Would probably be a education for guys back East on how to do Western trips.
More of a post-hunt ritual but a camp meal all the same-- traditionally for the first meal after a successful hunt, my father and I slice a venison heart and liver paper thin and then sear over a screaming hot cast iron or open flame, with a sprinkle of Worcestershire on each side. Cook to no...
Hang in there bud. You've got a ton of knowledge, stories and experience to show for it. We're killing one next year, you can bet your retirement on it.
Skyline.
But failing that, I riff pretty hard off of this recipe and it is usually pretty popular: https://nevadafoodies.com/elk-bloody-mary-chili-con-carne/
Any rough estimate as to impact velocity? I would've thought an LRX would open up a little better.
Also, here's a 165gr. Accubond fired into a cow elk at about 75 yards moving about 2700fps.
A lukewarm endorsement but I was pleasantly surprised to see the Denver Post editorial board come out against 127: https://www.denverpost.com/2024/10/29/proposition-127-mountain-lion-hunting-lynx-bobcats/
For what it is worth, I am getting 2774fps with a 127gr. Barnes LRX over a fairly spicy charge of H4350 in my 20inch Tikka CTR. Suffice it to say, you can still get plenty of velocity from a 20inch tube.
Wouldn't it be cheaper and easier to have a good smith chop the barrel, recrown and thread it? You know the barrel shoots well and already has the profile you want, why gamble with another tube?
Failing that, I'm a huge fan of Lilja barrels.
