    WI Hunts

Time to start putting some of these birds away. Half a smoked turkey, peas, carrots, and a little raw onion. Four pounds of potatoes and the sauce with sautéed onions, garlic, and celery ready to mix in. Pies are going in the oven . . . Pies are done!

    Antelope meat?

I don’t add anything to the grind. One of the nice things about antelope, deer, etc is how lean it is.

Yes, very much looking forward to it. Good luck on your hunt. Good news is your little guy will be tagging along on hunting activities around home before you know it.

In 2020 we went back again on 2nd choice tags and brought home more antelope. Then in 2021 we finally burned our points and found a few more antelope. I was hooked on antelope. They’re fun, provide all day action, don’t get CWD, and are accessible - especially with a few regulatory...

Looks like we’ve finally got a statistically significant margin of victory. Kitchen sink it is. Lots of places I could start this one, and I’m not sure where to start, so I’ll just pick one that seems logical. The foundation for this hunt was first laid back in 2013. That year we lost our...

How do you volunteer in your Community?

I volunteer for multiple sclerosis (MS) related stuff. I spend a bit over an hour a week on it. I help plan and execute a walk/fundraiser every year. In addition, I also fundraise every year via Bike MS. Got my son involved with the bike ride this year. Had him clearing buckthorn this...

Anyone ever bought a large piece of land and split it up?

Make sure if you sell, you 1031 it in to the new property. Do not pay the tax on it! Good luck.

    Raccoons

I bought the 2 foot rebar rods on the shelf next to the DPs. They held well. I don’t have any experience, but it didn’t seem like a coon would be able dislodge that stake.

Good points. We have a hunting season extension permit and a shoot from a vehicle permit for him. Applying for my disabled hunter companion permit is on my list of things to get done. Even with all the accommodations it will still be a challenge for him to fill his tag. At least now he’ll...

Thanks. The one that started charging OIL prices for a tag in the special drawing. Which is OK. If the price hike doesn’t happen, we probably aren’t going as we were relying on the random draw. The three of us had four points total going in and we needed about 13 total in the special to...

With a little hard work and lots of luck, our group managed to draw tags. The bunch includes my Dad, my twelve year old son, and me. For us, this will be an OIL tag/hunt in every sense. My Dad’s multiple sclerosis has taken a heavy toll and it will be the last opportunity he has to make...

    Raccoons

Well guys. I’ve got a coon problem. One or more are getting after my peaches big time. My big live trap that has caught coons before is not working. The’ve pissed me off so bad with all their damage I’m now looking for any legal means of control, with a lethal option now on the table. I’d...

This has been bothering me for a while.

I’m going to unthaw some venison for dinner. That buck has good time length. And if you’re in Wisconsin . . . do you want to go fishing tomorrow, er no?

Gift idea for a hunt helper

Based on what you’ve posted, I’d try to find where need and want meet. For example, if you’ve already gifted him a decent pair of binoculars, a nicer pair would fill a want and not a need. If he hunts WI, there’s usually always a need and want for a new treestand and/or blind. Does he have...

Family Trip to Alaska - Let’s Talk

Well, the weather did not cooperate on this trip. We had 9 days of rain, one overcast day, and one nice day. We made the best of the weather and I overcame the shock and despair of watching my phone head to the bottom of the Whittier harbor. A great trip! Thanks for all the help on this one guys!
