If you've been here for 20+ years, there's a good chance you signed up because @Moosie was trolling one of 3 other sites.
He was a man ahead of his time.
2002 for me. I remember signing up on my lunch break.
I have 2 308s. Booth shoot the same load, as well as i can.
200CCI large rifle
44gr Varget
165 accubonds
I also have shot a lot of 165 Sierra GK, same load. Shoots just as well
Almost talked myself into a third 308 the other day.
I burned the barrel out of my first big game rifle which was chambered in 243. I later rebarreled it in 260 rem. I will buy another one some day. I much prefer the 243 over the 260 on deer size game. I always shot 85gr Sierra HPBT or 87gr Vmax. Absolutely devastating on deer, antelope and varmints.
The sun shines in Anchorage about 50 days a year if you're lucky. We get about 12 days above 70. You get used to it but even when it's sunny it's nothing like sun in the west.
You'll be isolated and it's expensive to leave. Airline tickets tend to be about 25-50% more. But you can find...
It really depends like @Aerosith says.
Antlers in your part of the world are far different than in the west or even up north where its dry or areas where there are far less rodents. Sunlight is the biggest thing that degrades antlers assuming they aren't eaten first. :D If they're in the...
Looks like a great adventure. Congrats to both of you on the billies and the little one on the way.
That country looks like it could support a ton of mule deer. :D
Dude we get it you have baranoia.
4 people out of 100,000s of nights spent in tents by 100,000s of people. Seems super common. So common in fact I'm done going into the woods.
I would suggest you move into a bunker as well and hope a bear doesn't rip the door off.
Glad you found Google.
You...
The season you had last year was the best you're going to have. Been saying that about MT for the last 20 years. :D
Get 'em while their hot, because there won't be any left to get?
I'm strongly considering going down for a week, and picking up a native elk/deer license and a couple doe tags...
I have a drawer or two full of "base layers" from cheap to expensive. They all works about the same if they're made of plastic. YMMV Base layers are great, but if you trap the moisture in layers over the top, it doesn't really matter much how well they wick moisture.
Was he wearing solids or camo?
It makes a difference. Solids he's doing research. Full camo with matching jammies, he's about to pull an all-nighter and hope for the best.
I would highly recommend bringing more than 3 rounds. Your confidence will evaporate when buck fever sets in or you miss the first one and don't have enough for the second.
I have a story of taking a first timer hunting, a 27yo Marine no less, that was also confidant in his shooting abilities...
Congrats! Looks like a great time and a heck of a goat to show for it.
I couldn't imagine getting to hunt goats in that kind of terrain and weather. What a great trip all the way around.
