NO WAY! You had her bred? I know my wife will kill me if I get another but send me pictures! Your dog looks just like mine on point! The way you describe her working birds sounds just like gretta. Ron

    Saturday chukar hunt!

After several hours driving. We went to a location I have not been to in a couple of years. The wind was bad and it was HOT! It must have been in the 70's. Gretta showed me she is not perfect. She had a couple of coveys take her to the wood shed. I was able to cut them off but the fact is they...

    Another friday hunt

I couldn't do a full day hunt. I had a lot of yard work to do so I could go chukar hunting tomorrow. I went to a place I had never been just to check it out. I got into 4 coveys that worked well. Here is a pic, and I will post the results from tomorrow. Ron

    chukar hunt 10-29-04

Todays hunt was my son Jacobs lucky day. He got his first chukar, and it was in the air 1-pointer. He had to shoot a lot of shells to get this bird. Here was a picture he took of me. I got my limit but it was tough. These birds had been hunted a bit and Jacob was having a hard time keeping...

    Sharp-tails petitioned for listing???

1-pointer, Our grouse here in Idaho are the Colombian's. The Birds in Montana are a different breed. I believe they are prairie sharptails. They look the same, act the same, and taste the same. Do I think they need to be listed? i don't think so right now. So much of this is up to the land...

    Todays hunt

I let Gretta make up her own mind as far as range goes. In the mountains for blue grouse she seldom ranges past 100 yards. If I take her out in the flat lands near a canyon she pushes out big at times, but most times she is between 100 and 300 yards out. She has been very good at comming back to...

    Todays hunt

This area is in the Owhyee drainage. The flag is something I designed and made my self. The reason I use it is for long range. Gretta will push out 500 yards or more at times. If she is on point she can be hard to see. You have a dog the same color you know what I mean. In this first picture...

    Todays hunt

Today was the first day out in the big desert. I have been waiting for the snakes to go away. We had some rain the last week and the birds are starting to come up out of the canyon. In this first picture Gretta has a covey pinned between us. I got this picture at about 60 yards. I put the camera...

    Sharp-tailed Grouse

Hemorrhage, I have trapped them inthe Rockland area, was that where you were at? I started out as a reservist traping pheasants, then Sharp-tails. I have been trapping and counting sage grouse the last five years. I haven' even went over to do anything with sharp-tails. Ron

We had good luck in Montana about everywhere we went that had block management. Same went for pheasants. Ron

    Sharp-tailed Grouse

I love to eat sharptails but they are a bit rich for some peoples taste. I hunted around Ririe last year and I got one bird in 3 days. I went to Montana and shot 4 birds per day for 5 days. Montana has a different type of sharptail than we do but they taste, act, look, and sound the same as...

    Sharp-tailed Grouse

I love to hunt sharpies! I also think they are one of the BEST eating birds. I think I might even like them better than pheasant or blue grouse. Hemorrhage, and Idaho smiley. What are the populations looking like? Ron
