I've been hunting over baits in MN for 20+ years, with good success. I really like the sweets for my bears, donuts, trail mix, pie fillings. What are your favorite baits to use? Just wandering if there was something out there that I have not tried. FInding good bait at a reasonable price is getting pretty hard to get these days.

Keystone works too, but I'm not 100% you won't get in trouble when the Cubs come in to drink it. I need to dig up old pictures ;)

Sounds like you're doing what most of us do. It's been a few years since I've had the fun of hauling bait in but we'd use donuts, dog food and molasses. Whatever we could use bulk. We have a contact at the local power bar company and get blocks of power bars too. Companies like that have a crap load of "waste" that works good. There is also a restaurant owner we know that we go to his grease pit out back and bucket out fry grease. He pays to have it hauled off so it works out for both of us.

Good luck and post pictures.

Busch Light......

Donuts have been the best for me - followed by granola and cookies...

Also use a ton of used grease from some local fat food joints...

I used to use pancakes when we could bait. Bought a couple of the large electric griddles at a yard sale and spent a day cooking pancakes, then I would use the cheapest by the gallon syrup I could find and it worked well for me. Also, liquid smoke poured all around, even a human can smell that stuff for a long ways.

sorry can't use the beaver in MN but I heard it works pretty well, have tried most all recommendations but it's fun to hear what guy's have to say. I'm going to start his weekend, it's going to be a little different this year with all the trees down in my areas. Good luck to all.

Really? they won't let you use beaver? That is too bad because they are cocaine to bears. You buy the carcass from a trapper and freeze it up ready for bear dinner.

Your not supposed to use anything with bones in it, I suppose if you would carve the meat off the carcass but who has time? I have seen alot of shows that use them but I'd rather save the freezer space for some backstraps or burger. I don't like to use meat anymore after seeing a bear finally tear down a sack full of bugs and maggots and just roll in it like a dog in a pile of sh-t.

An old co-worker from Mn. took all my beaver carcasses and boned them out.He didn't have a lot of luck bear hunting but if they did it was over the beaver meat.Somebody I talked to that baits for a guide said to use the meat later in the season for some reason.Good luck, looking forward to some pictures.

Damn...pancakes, why didn't I think of that. I guess it's gonna be on, like donkey kong...anyone ever use carp?

fish are like meat, they just get stinky, all you smell is rotten fish while your trying to sit on the hunt. I did popcorn last year worked great, bought a 50lb bag at SAM's club but it took along time to pop it all, buddy get his right at the movie theater, they through it out every day. Pancakes could take a while to cook all those, time is priceless.

We used to hunt bear a lot in MN. We used old donuts a lot as well as apples. They love the apples. Make a little 2'x 3' 3 inch deep pool of KFC grease in front and you will get bears. We also did honey burns with great results. The pool of grease is fantastic though. The bears step in it and leave a trail for others right to the bait.
