I am planning on hunting Region G next year. I'm headed down there in 2 weeks to do a scouting trip to get a lay of the land and see where the access points are, as well as try to find a few spots to start out next season. I have OnX maps, the DIY Hunting Maps paper maps, and have spent hours looking at Google Earth. I plan to hunt units 144 and 145, using the Greys River Road as a jumping off point and spending a night or two backpacking into a spot before trying another area. I'm having a tough time narrowing down areas to start. There are so many roads and trails it seems that it is hard to get more than 2 miles from a horse trail or ATV trail. If anyone else has experience there, I would love to hear your insight/advice. Would choose the east side/Wyoming Range over the west side/Salt River Range, or are they pretty much equal? If you were hunting the first week of the season and there was no snow, what elevation would you focus on? Thanks very much.
