I had a tag last year. But lost the field I planned to hunt just days prior to the hunt to someone leasing.

Somehow got lucky and got a drew a tag agin this year. Thanks to a friend we had a field locked up last night for this morning. 10 minutes after the cranes started flying, it was all over. Watching them big birds fall is a treat.

I should get some decoys and try decoying them. We can shoot five a day here. Pass shot the odd one they do make a good thunk when they hit the ground.

Do you have a call or do they just come into the decoys?

Thanks guys.

In terms of decoys, we put out a dozen goose decoys and 3 cranes. (They are $100 each). We set up in more of a flight path and pass shot the first flock to get 2. The 3rd bird would not have been shot without a the crane decoys. The flock locked in on them and dropped right in. I don't think a call would be necessary (I bought one and cannot get it to sound remotely like a crane).
