So I've ordered a few BLM maps to hunt Wyoming and it looks like there are roads EVERYWHERE on the BLM land. I've never really hunted BLM so I was just wondering if every road that is depicted on the maps is heavily traveled during hunting season? I mean even in semi-rugged country it looks like there is a trail through the middle of almost every section.

The unit that I'm looking at, it looks like it'd be almost impossible to get more than a mile off of a trail where I could try and get away from other hunters. For those of you that have hunted BLM land, especially for elk or deer, is it possible to get away from all the trail's and have some space to yourself????

Where I hunted last year it was like that for roads but most are gated.I saw alot of guys on 4 wheelers running the roads but not one hunter in the woods.I ran into elk within a 1/4 mile of my road camp last year too.So I hunted pretty close and never saw another guy. This was archery season.
I think you'll find alot of those roads are closed to travel, and you could use them as a quick way to get in deep.I wish I drew that elk tag,but I got next year

Just depnds what area you are in. You should call the local blm office and you can find out what areas have restricted travel in your hunt unit.

It does depend on what part of the State you are in and some of the "roads" on the map are little more than cow trails.
