The more and more I hunt with my kids the less concerned I am about me shooting something nice and my kids shooting the nice deer. It’s the first week of rifle season in WV and I took my oldest son out on the first morning to see how the season would start. We were hunting in a new area that relatives had just leased this year and about an hour after sunrise he shot his biggest buck so far. He was so pumped up when he finally saw the buck walk into his shooting lane that I could see his rifle bouncing up and down from his heart rate going so fast. So after some coaching on his breathing and settling in on shooting, he sealed the deal on a nice 8 point at about 40 yards from a ground blind. The excitement of having kids share something you have grown up enjoying is better than winning the lottery.
