WTB Recurve in MSO Area

Long shot, but here goes:

I’d like to mess around with recurves. Anyone have some vintage righties collecting dust they want to get rid of? Maybe in the 40 - 55 # range? Prefer in-person in the Missoula/Bitterroot/Butte/Etc area.

I’ve found some online, but am hesitant to take a crapshoot on condition.

Have more of a Shakespeare than a Bear budget to spend.

If you can’t find a good deal, don’t hesitate to buy a sub $200 PSE Nighthawk or a Samick Sage. Great introduction to see if you’re into it without investing to much.

I went from a 70# compound to a 50# Nighthawk recurve and will never go back. I will eventually upgrade to a custom but for now it works and will kill things.

I think they're called the Hunter Supreme .

My rotator cuff doesn't like it anymore.

I'd sell it for $275 tyd.

@Flatbrimmer whats wow about that? The trads I’ve shot I haven’t noticed much of a difference between the $175 and $400 name brands.

You notice it when you step up to customs.

I have an older Bob Lee custom recurve. 55lbs at 28”, but I couldn’t take less than $300 for it. It would be well over $1,000 new.

I would look at some of the ones like INMT mentioned, if that’s your budget.

Don’t laugh, but I bought a $100 Mandarin Duck Black Hunter recurve off of Amazon when I was interested in trying a trad archery. It feels surprisingly good in the hand and does in fact propel arrows downrange. Maybe not a bad option if you don’t want to invest much at the outset.

I’ll have to look into that. I bought it from a fellow Hunt Talker a few years back, was just going to pass it along.

If you buy used I would advise not buying sight unseen. The limbs may have a slight twist in them that may not show up in pictures. Or cracks, de-laminations or other issues that may pop up. Also it would give you a chance to have it strung and you can pull it to your anchor point and see how it feels. Not all 50# bows are the same. No matter which recurve you try always use a bow stringer "always".
