Went out this morning to look around for a couple cows and found about 6-7 hundred right at daylight. Planned a 2.5 mile stalk, worked out really well. It's always a pain to get on those big herds, but lucked out and caught the tail end of the herd (about 75). Picked out a cow and shot, heard the familiar thump of the bullet from the 7-08 and watched as she wobbled and dropped. Picked out a second one and sent another 140 accubond downrange, again, familiar thump and that was that.
If there were a record book for dew claws, this one would win:
I have some much better pictures, but show wayyyy too much country.
Made the 2.5 mile hike back and got the truck. Got back to them at 11:00 on the dot and started quartering them. Had them quartered and in the truck in 1 hour and 5 minutes.
I'll go out and help a buddy for a couple days, but it's been a long season and for once, I'm almost happy it's over.
Time to get the ice fishing stuff together.
