Anyone see the new report on the bill that Conrad Burns slipped in that will allow horses that have been through three adoptions and not adopted or over 10yrs of age will not be eligible for sale for slaughter??? Thoughts?

It's about time.

Will or will not be available for slaughter????? I don't think horse tastes much like elk, more like moose. I support having a season for them.

There won't be a season, but horses would be able to be bought from the BLM and then sold for slaughter. Until recently that was illegal.

1-Pointer,
If I remember correctly the Fund for Animals, PETA and the Humane Society were the ones who put up such a stink about the slaughter to start with. Better that they eat themselves out of house and home and starve in the winter. The adoption deal is okay but there are always way more critters then there are takers.

I think most horses slaughtered in this country go to the Netherlands. Seems the Dutch like horse meat. I remember living in Germany and horse meat was almost always available in the butcher shops.

Anyway I think it is a step forward.

If I have my story correct the bill is signed and this is a done deal. Other avenues for horseflesh are dog food and glue. I'm thinking Tongan's and the French eat the as well. I agree about it being a step forward. There's only one thing to do when you have too many of any animal, some have to die.

Put a season on them. Horse meat is tasty. They are good looking animals but there are way too many of them.

The huge herds in N. Nevada destroy habitat that should be for deer, antelope, and sheep. The burros though, they're too cute to eat.....

It use to be anyways, once you adopted one, it had to stay in your ownership for a yr. Once that yr was up you were free to do whatever with them.....my neighbor use to chicken feed his after the yr was up so do alot of people.
