Pretty proud of the wife. She decided for her first elk she wanted to pack it out on her back instead of using our pack stock we have. She busted her ass to fill her cow tag this year and didn't complain one bit when we had to pack it right at 2 miles. I may have gotten the "go to hell" look from her once or twice though. 7mm-08 140 grain accubond 398 yards. One shot and elk ran about 40 yards and tipped over. Would have liked to have closed the distance farther but we were losing light and there was mule deer in between us and the elk. Very thankful to have a freezer full of elk meat again this year. Now hopefully I can fill my tag this coming weekend in the Crazies. I think I have created a monster though as she now has been bitten by the elk bug bad
here's one of those looks the next day when the adrenaline was gone.
Some of the mule deer that were in our way
Me on the last load out the next morning
Her with a load that night while she was still running on adrenaline. I was amazed I got her to walk out in the dark after we found lion tracks in the same drainage as us.
