While much of the west coast is getting pummeled by wet weather, we are about to get hammered by an extreme cold weather from moving down from Canada.

Latest forecast from the NWS:

...BLIZZARD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM WEDNESDAY MORNING TO THURSDAY MORNING.. NORTHWEST WIND OF 25 TO 35 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 50 MPH WILL PRODUCE CONSIDERABLE BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW WEDNESDAY INTO WEDNESDAY NIGHT. THE VISIBILITY MAY DROP TO NEAR ZERO AT TIMES IN THE BLOWING SNOW. SIGNIFICANT DRIFTING OVER THE ROADS IS ALSO POSSIBLE. THE STRONG WIND WILL COMBINE WITH FALLING TEMPERATURES WEDNESDAY TO PRODUCE WIND CHILLS OF 30 TO 50 BELOW ZERO BY AFTERNOON. THE WIND CHILLS ARE EXPECTED TO DROP TO 40 TO 60 BELOW ACROSS THE AREA WEDNESDAY NIGHT. THE WIND IS EXPECTED TO DIMINISH BY THURSDAY...BUT WILL LIKELY REMAIN IN THE 10 TO 20 MPH RANGE...WHICH WILL COMBINE WITH TEMPERATURES OF 15 TO 25 BELOW ZERO TO PRODUCE DANGEOUS WIND CHILLS OF 4O TO 60 BELOW ZERO:eek:. ANY TRAVEL IS STRONGLY DISCOURAGED. IF YOU LEAVE THE SAFETY OF BEING INDOORS, YOU ARE PUTTING YOUR LIFE AT RISK!!! :( .

I guess that end of season goose hunting trip will have to be cancelled. ;)

I am going to lay in a supply of wiskey (for medicinal purposes only!!) and a stack of DVD's my kids and I to watch. I will build a blazing fire in the fireplace and not move from it for a day or two. Think warm thoughts everyone.

There's a big hoopla among the Bible crowd in this area because of some syndicated writer and his "Perfect Storm" prediction. It's got something to do with the front coming in from the west, then yours from the north, and another from the south, all forming a "three front convergence" centered on the midwest. While the various meteorologists are saying that it's going to cause bad weather in some areas and just rain or a little snow in others, some seem convinced that this is some sort of massive event that is predicted in the Bible, leading to Armageddon. They say it will dump snow the likes of which have never been seen, effectively shutting down the entire midwest. (Why shutting down the midwest leads to Armageddon isn't yet clear to me.) Anyway, the weather center phone at work has been ringing off the hook ever since the story came out.

See http://www.sunherald.com/mld/sunherald/10567395.htm for the rundown.

I certainly don't think this storm will bring on Armageddon. I haven't heard that one. I did hear the the Tsunami was the harbringer of the end of the world. Then Drudge reported that the Islamic Fundamentalist were preaching that the wave was Allah's will to punish the westerners who vacationed there and partied. They didn't mention that thousand upon thousand of those killed were Muslims. |oo

Anyway, I think this is just a cold front and it will pass. It won't be many more months and I will be griping about the 100 degree heat.

Why is armaggedon always just around the corner? What makes this generation so special?

Call me crazy, but I think if god or allah or whoever wanted to harrass someone he would have some better tricks up his sleeve than some localized weather pattern or even a tsunami.

My favorite theory so far is that the American government exploded a nuclear device setting off the earthquake which led to the tsunami. Now that is creative! ;) Now this multimillion dollar and practically impossible project would benefit us how exactly?

Tuck in my brother. Save a sip of that whiskey for me. :D

Nah this chilly storm ain't Armageddon, I saw the movie. ;) Just another nasty winter storm. With some luck school will get canceled tomorrow and I'll get an extry day off. :D The storm does however, curtail my plans tomorrow to shovel the sidewalks in a swim suit.

O.k, bad mental image.... speedo........ chubby......white legs..... too much

It is perfectly normal here. From mid January to the beginning of February is sub zero. Last 3-4 winters we have not had it bad. So seems like it is just back to normal. Had one winter where it was -30 every morning and the high never got above -10 for 3 weeks.

Never mind how the weather is effecting us humans in our warm houses, how is it for the elk & deer herds in the northern rockys ? Will there big a big winter kill this year ?

Nemont at about 4:30 this afternoon the wind started picking up from the north, it's now 11:40pm here in Lethbridge and it's getting pretty nasty. Winds howling from the north, we have white out conditions and the temp is droping real fast. went from -3f to -22 right now. Wednesday night is going to bottom out around -32f with wind chills in the mid -40's. For five bucks or a dozen dounuts I'll close the gate and stop it from coming your way. :D

Powderburn,
looks like you didn't get that gate shut. It is already starting to blow and drift. Temp has dropped about 15 degrees in the last half hour. Now where is that wiskey bottle?

If it snows in Phx. in July that will be the start of Armageddon... i am sure of it ..until then don`t worry about it.

The weather from So Cal has hit Southern Utah and the floods are doing major damage. They have lost 25 houses to the swollen river near St George. The usually small trickle turned into a mighty turrent and has eaten the banks away and under homes in the area. There is some pretty sad video on the www.kutv.com website of some of these homes going into the drink...
The power of mother nature is amazing, and scary. That water and what it has done is unbelievable.
Hope it warms up for you guys up north... That below zero stuff is just too cold for me!!!

The cold isn't quite down to here yet, we hit a couple inches of snow this morning, but none of the extreme cold that was called for... :)

little chilly here in Glenallen Alaska right now it is reading 37 below and it has warmed up earlier in was 46 below, heard that Fairbanks it was 56 below, guess the main thing is that there is no wind to speak of

Hey 300, can you tell the difference between -37 and -46? Just wondering?
Once it gets below zero, it all feels the same to me!!!!
I don't know how you guys live in that cold. Must be pretty tough!!!
Or have some dang good long johns!!!!
Good luck keeping warm!!

Antlerrick,
The cold keeps the riff-raff out. After last winter we had a lot of people who had moved here decide to move out. One thing about the cold you can dress for it. High tech clothes, layering, boots good to -50 degrees etc. The heat you can't, just have to lay in front of the AC and sweat.

I agree with not being able to dress for the heat, but where I'm at the temp doesn't get too hot for very long. We get some of the heat, and some of the cold, but not that dang cold! We get down into the "teens below zero" (does that make sense? teens below zero?) once in a great while, but usually about zero is the coldest. We have a month or so over 90 degrees, but all in all, we have fairly pleasant weather.
