We hit northern WI last weekend and found a few birds. There were a few more leaves on the trees this year than last. Numbers seemed OK. Although I’d probably follow @TheGreek and head to MN and leave WI alone.
I had the gun jam and missed a pretty good opportunity. He flew off in to some relatively open jack pine meadow. I pursued hoping to jump him again and wound up finding that really nice 4 point side. I’m guessing it was sitting there for at least a year and a half. Minimal chewing so that was nice. I might try and restore it. I thought that was a fair trade.
For those with a keen eye you’ll notice I’m holding a 12 ga and that empty is a 28 ga. (as it landed). My brother missed a swat and I followed up and took him off the wing. I think my brother eventually noticed the good natured troll.
@BrentD I think it was one young of the year bird and two older birds. Good luck!
