" "This is not a campaign waged against motorized vehicles ..... "What we are doing is returning to the very reason parks were created and seeking to protect the natural values that set them apart. "

What the ATV crowd doesn't realize is that Parks, Wilderness Areas and Roadless Areas weren't established for ATVs.

Get over it!

Good post Ithaca. I also agree with you on this issue.

"Blue Ribbon (Coalition), which claims to have 600,000 members, has also worked alongside politicians in the West who are trying to remove the snowmobile ban in Yellowstone. With billions of dollars in potential profits at stake, ORV manufacturers who support Blue Ribbon's efforts see national parks as tools to help them build consumer markets and to wield more political clout with Congress." I don't agree with the premise of using national parks as tools for profits as far as ORV's are concerned.

As far as Yellowstone is concerned, I have no problem with phasing 2-stroke engines out and allowing only 4-stroke snowmobiles in the park. The technology is there. Functionally, my sled has no business in the park. A nice quiet 4-stroke 2-up touring sled, with a speed governor, adjustable suspension and a cup holder.

The all-out ban is not a viable solution, and was correctly overturned. The threat was a good thing because it forced rapid development of cleaner, quieter and more economical 4-stroke technology. And, the reversal correctly addressed the economic impacts in the decision.

Materialism and Parks

"...when it comes to some of the boldest manifestations of our collective wealth, the national parks, Americans see them almost exclusively as natural, recreational, and spiritual assets. Surely they are that, but we park conservationists hurt our cause by not emphasizing their economic virtues at the same time." May-June, 2003

IT, you really are laughable with your state of senility.

I haven't heard anybody say that roadless areas or wilderness areas should be opened for ATV riding.

what`s the problem with snowmobile`s? after the snow melt`s then you can`t see the track`s right? 2 stroke vs 4 stroke are we talking noise pollution here, will i still be able to piss in the snow?
